Email marketing

Send sales emails to your buyers and signups from your store. Set up sequences that go out on their own, or send a broadcast to a list you filter.

·10 min read

Open Your store → Email. Finish Settings once, then click New broadcast to send one email, or New sequence to send a series on its own. Needs Starter or above.

See examples of broadcasts, sequences, and checkout recovery on the Email marketing feature page.

Set up your sender

  1. 01

    Open Settings

    In Email, click Settings.

  2. 02

    Fill in the sender

Set your From name, where Replies go to, and a Mailing address. Pick Use my own or Use Eden's address.

The Sender card in Email settings with From name, Replies go to, Mailing address, Look, and the Send me a test email button
  3. 03

    Send a test

Click Send me a test email to see it in your own inbox.

Emails come from your store handle on Eden's sending address, or from your own domain once you set one up (below). Pick a Look: Letter reads like a personal note, Branded puts the email on a soft card with your store icon and color.

Send from your own domain

On Pro or higher, send from an address like [email protected]. In Settings, find Your own domain, type your domain, click Continue, and add the DNS records Eden shows. Until they check out, emails keep coming from your Eden address. Lists over 50,000 contacts send broadcasts from their own domain only. See Send email from your own domain for the steps and whether it's right for you.

Make your emails match your brand

In Settings, pick the Branded look. The Brand kit shows up under it, with a preview that updates as you change things. Click Save brand kit and every email uses it.

SettingWhat it changes
LogoIcon + name, Wide logo, or Name only, then Upload logo
Buttons and linksThe color of buttons and links
Text and BackgroundThe words and the page behind the email
FontModern, Clean, Classic, Book, or Friendly
Button shape and widthPill, rounded, or square. Fit the words or full width

For an icon, use a square image at least 200 × 200 px. For a wide logo, use a PNG with a see-through background, about 600 × 160 px.

The Letter look stays a plain note and ignores the brand kit. If a text color is too hard to read on your background, Eden swaps in a readable one.

In Settings → Footer, add a Footer note, like a sign-off, and turn on Social links to show the links from your store page. This works with both looks. The unsubscribe link and your mailing address always stay at the bottom.

Who's on your list

Your contacts fill in on their own. Open Audience → Subscribers to see them.

  • People who buy or claim a free product.
  • People who sign up on your page, give their email on a form, or tick the email box on a quiz.
  • People who start checking out but don't buy.
  • People you import, or add through Zapier or Eden chat.

Bringing a list from Kit, beehiiv, Mailchimp, or Substack? Go to Audience → Subscribers and click Import contacts, then tick no product. You can import up to the contacts your plan holds, and 10,000 on Free. See Bring your email list over.

Only import people who bought from you or agreed to hear from you. Imported people get broadcasts, but they don't start sequences.

To keep buyers, free claims, or signups off this list, connect an outside list, then turn off their Eden switch in Integrations → Who goes where. A signup form on your page, and any form under Email ask, can also pick its own lists. See Connect your email list.

Tag, unsubscribe, or delete many people at once

  1. In Subscribers, tick the box next to each person, or the box at the top to pick everyone shown.
  2. To go past the people loaded, click Select all.
  3. Pick an action: Add tag, Remove it, Unsubscribe, or Delete.

Delete can't be undone. People who unsubscribed or marked you as spam stay on your list, so they never get emailed again. Bad addresses already don't count toward your contacts.

Clean out people who never open

  1. In Subscribers, open the Any activity filter and pick No opens in 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months.
  2. Click the box at the top, then Select all to pick everyone it shows.
  3. Click Unsubscribe.

The Last opened column shows when each person last opened. A click counts as an open. People who joined or were imported inside that window never show up, since they haven't had time to open anything. Imported people have no open history from before Eden, so they read Not emailed yet or Never at first.

Fewer people who never open means fewer bounces and spam marks, so more of your emails reach the inbox. You also use fewer sends. People you unsubscribe can join again any time.

To ask them first, use the Clean your list automation. People who click stay, and the rest are unsubscribed. See Email automations.

Send a broadcast

  1. Click Broadcasts, then New broadcast.
  2. Write a Subject and the email.
  3. Click Send me a test on the right.
  4. Click Next. Under Who gets it, add filters like Bought, Has a tag, or Signed up on my page.
  5. Under When, pick Now or Pick a time, then send. Under the button, Eden shows how many of your sends it uses, like "Uses 4,200 of your 6,100 sends left this month."
The Who gets it filters on a broadcast: Bought Deep Work Planner and Didn't buy The Focus Course, with an Add a filter button
Filters all have to match. This one reaches planner buyers who haven't bought the course.

To skip people who are in the middle of a launch, add Isn't in a sequence and leave it on Any sequence and right now. Is in a sequence works the same way. Pick ever to match anyone who was ever put in one.

People who haven't opened or clicked in 6 months are skipped. Tick Include quiet people to add them. Broadcasts open after your first paid month on Eden. You can write one before then.

Test two subject lines

Try two subjects on a small group first, then send the winner to everyone else.

  1. In the email, click Test another subject line next to the From name.
  2. Write subject B. Leave its preview empty to use A's.
  3. Click Next. Under Subject test, Eden says who gets what, like "1,000 people get subject A and 1,000 people get subject B. After 4 hours, the one with more opens goes to the other 8,000 people."
  4. Change the Test group, how long to Wait, or pick the Winner by opens or clicks. Then send.

While it waits, the broadcast shows both subjects with their open and click rates and which one is ahead. Click Send A now or Send B now (it names the one ahead) to end the test early, or Send this one to pick a subject yourself.

  • Small lists: under 1,000 people there's no wait. Half get each subject, and the results say which did better.
  • Opens or clicks: Apple Mail opens some emails on its own, so opens are a little fuzzy. Pick clicks if your email has a link that matters. If nobody clicks either one, opens decide.
  • Send me a test sends one copy of each subject.

Newsletter issues send with one subject.

Add images, videos, buttons, and product cards

Type / in the email to add a heading, list, quote, divider, image, video, button, or product card.

  • Images: paste one, or use the image button in the toolbar. Click the image to resize it, move it left or center, or click the link icon to make it open a page.
  • Videos: pick YouTube video from / and paste a YouTube link. The email shows the video's picture with a play button, and a click opens it on YouTube. Inboxes can't play videos inside the email.
  • Buttons: click a button to change what it says and where it goes.
  • Product cards: show a product's picture, name, and price above its button. Pick Product card from /, or open any product button and set Show as to Product card.

Click Preview to see it the way an inbox shows it.

Send buyers straight to their course

A button can open what someone bought, instead of its sales page.

  1. Add a button, then click it.
  2. Under Goes to, pick Their access to a product.
  3. Pick the Product. For a course, use Open at to pick a module or lesson. Leave it on Where they left off to open it where they stopped.

Buyers sign in, then land inside it. Anyone who doesn't have it sees a short page with a link to buy it. Every reader gets the same link, so it works in broadcasts and sequences.

In a sequence that starts when someone buys or joins a community, Their access to what they got does the same for the product that started it.

Add their name and other fill-ins

Type { in the subject or message to add a fill-in, like their first name. It shows as a chip. Click a chip to see what it will say in this email, swap it for another, or remove it. For a first name, set a word to use when someone has no name, like "friend". Without one, English emails say "there".

Save an email or a block to reuse

  • Templates: save a whole email to start the next one from it. In a broadcast, click Templates on the right. In a sequence email, click the template icon next to Preview. Name it, then click Save template. To start from one, open Templates and click Use.
  • Saved blocks: save a piece you add often, like your signature. In Settings → Saved blocks, click New block, name it, and write it. Then type / in any email and pick it under Saved blocks.

Changing a template or block later doesn't change emails you already wrote.

Automate what happens next

Automations decide what happens after someone buys, signs up, or gets a tag: which sequence they get, which tags they get, and where they go next. Click Automations, then New automation, and start from a ready-made one or draw your own. See Email automations.

Run a newsletter

The Newsletter tab is the home for your newsletter: its signup page, public archive, issues, and subscribers. Click New issue to write one as an email. See Start a newsletter.

Set up a sequence

  1. Click Sequences, then New sequence. Pick a ready-made one, like Welcome or Abandoned checkout, or Start blank.
  2. Edit each email and the day it goes out. To draft them all, pick what it sells in the sequence's Settings, then click Write with AI (10 credits).
  3. Click Send me this one on an email to test it.
  4. Flip the switch at the top and click Turn on.
The New sequence dialog listing Upsell, Free to paid, Welcome, Ask for testimonials, Win back, Abandoned checkout, and Start blank

A sequence starts when:

  • Someone buys or claims a product.
  • Someone signs up on your page.
  • Someone starts checking out but doesn't buy (checkout recovery).
  • A membership ends.
  • Someone gets a tag.

When you turn one on, you can also add people from the last 30 days. If a sequence sells a product, anyone who buys it leaves the sequence. Sequences need Pro or above.

Leave some people out of a sequence

In a sequence's Settings, use Never send to to pick tags or other sequences. Anyone who matches never gets these emails. Someone who matches later, like a person tagged after they joined, stops before their next email.

Give each person their own deadline

Pick a template under With a deadline in New sequence, or turn on Deadline offer in a sequence's Settings. Each person gets their own countdown and price on what it sells, starting when they join. When it ends, the price goes back up. See Give each person their own deadline.

Your buyers don't get two sets of emails

Eden sends your buyers a few short emails on how to use what they bought, then asks for a review once they've used it for about a week. Your sequences take over from these:

  • Turn on a sequence that starts when someone buys a product, and Eden stops its how-to emails for that product.
  • Turn on an Ask for testimonials sequence, and Eden stops its review request for that product. Review requests you send yourself still go out.

Receipts and access emails always go out.

You can also start one from a signup form: open the Email capture block on your page, then flip a sequence on under Start a sequence, or click New sequence for this form.

What each plan includes

Email is priced by your sends, not your list. Each plan includes contacts and a set number of sends every month. Sends reset on the 1st. Test emails don't count. For worked examples of what a list costs, see How email pricing works.

PlanWhat you get
FreeImport up to 10,000 contacts. Sending needs Starter.
StarterBroadcasts. 10,000 contacts, 10,000 sends a month
ProEverything in Starter, plus sequences, checkout recovery, and deadline offers. 50,000 contacts, 50,000 sends a month
Max and aboveEverything in Pro. 150,000 contacts, 200,000 sends a month

Each email to one person is one send. A broadcast to 2,000 people uses 2,000 sends. Unsubscribed and bounced people don't count toward your contacts.

See your sends and contacts in Email → Settings, under Contacts.

More contacts than your plan holds

  • Starter and Pro: move up a plan. New signups and buyers still save to your list, but sending to everyone waits until you do.
  • Max: add 50,000 contacts for $20 a month each, up to 500,000. Your next send shows the price and asks first.
  • More than 500,000: you need a custom plan. If an import takes you past it, click Talk to us in the pop-up. If your list grows past it on its own, sending keeps going and we're told right away. Either way, we email you within a day.

On an older plan with no card saved? Email → Settings shows Add a card. Saving a card moves your plan to our new billing at the same price and renewal date, with nothing charged that day. Then you can add extra sends or contacts.

Choose what happens when your sends run out

Your first broadcast or sequence asks this once, in Turn on email marketing. Pick one:

ChoiceWhat happens
Add more sends when I run outWhen you run out, Eden adds extra sends to your plan, from $10 a month for 10,000.
Only use my included sendsEmails past your included sends wait until the 1st. Nothing is charged.

Extra sends come in levels. The more you need, the less each send costs:

Extra sends a monthPrice a month
10,000$10
20,000$16
50,000$35
100,000$55
300,000$75
750,000$150
1,500,000$285

How extra sends work:

  • Each time you run out, Eden moves you up to the next level that covers it, up to your monthly limit. The limit starts at $35 a month (50,000 extra sends). At the limit, emails wait until the 1st.
  • You're charged that day for the rest of your billing period, so the first charge is often less than the full price.
  • The extra sends stay on your plan every month until you lower them.
  • Sends reset on the 1st. Unused sends don't roll over.
  • On a yearly plan, each level costs 10 times its monthly price a year (10,000 a month is $100 a year), charged for the part of the year that's left.

We email you at 80%, 90%, and 95% of your sends and of your contacts, each time we add sends, and when emails are waiting. From 80%, a banner at the top of the Email tab shows it too. Starter and Pro can also move up a plan on their own when the list is full: see How email pricing works. Every broadcast shows how many sends it uses, like "Uses 2,000 of your 6,100 sends left this month."

Change it later

In Email → Settings, under Contacts:

  • Extra sends on your plan lets you pick a level yourself, or lower it. Raising is charged that day.
  • When sends run out switches between adding sends and included sends only.
  • Monthly limit on extra sends changes your limit. It shows when adding sends is on.
  • Lowering your extra sends takes effect on your next bill. You keep this month's sends.

Check your email lands in the inbox

Under every email you write, Inbox check shows its word count, its size, and anything that could send it to spam. Click it to see the list. Warnings come first, then tips.

It checksWhat it looks for
SubjectEmpty, too long to show, capitals, !!, starting with Re: or Fwd:, spam words
WordsSpam words like "click here" or "act now", lots of sales words, capitals, !!!
SizeGmail cuts off emails over 102 KB and hides the rest behind View entire message
ImagesFiles over 1 MB, mostly pictures and few words, images with no description
LinksLink text that shows one address but goes to another, http:// links

A broadcast with warnings also says so on the send step. Short links like bit.ly are swapped for the full address when the email sends, since spam filters trust them less.

Words alone rarely send an email to spam. What matters most is emailing people who asked to hear from you, and that they open and reply. See How Eden keeps your emails out of spam for everything Eden does, and Why did my email go to spam? if one already did.

What Eden handles for you

  • Unsubscribes: every email has an unsubscribe link and your mailing address. People who unsubscribe never get another email, even if you import them again.
  • Uploaded addresses: Eden checks each one before it gets an email. Ones that would bounce are skipped and show as Bad address in Subscribers. Know one is real, like a client? Set the filter to Bad address, tick them, and click Not a bad address. If an email to them bounces, they're marked bad again for good.
  • Your first big send: the first 500 emails go out, then the next 5,000 about an hour later, then everyone else about 30 minutes after that, once bounces and spam reports look fine. This happens once.
  • Bounces and spam reports: Eden watches both and warns you before it has to pause your emails. See below.

Your delivery health

On Broadcasts, the Delivery health card shows the last 7 days:

NumberGoodWatchToo high (we pause)
BouncesUnder 2%2% to under 5%5%
Spam reportsUnder 0.05%0.05% to under 0.1%0.1%, with 3+ reports

Until you've sent 50 emails in a week, it shows your bounce and spam report counts and how close you are to a grade. Bounces get graded at 50 emails, spam reports at 200. One or two spam reports never pause you, at any size.

If you get close to a pause, a yellow banner shows your numbers and what helps, and we email you. Bounces usually come from an old, bought, or copied list. Spam reports usually mean people don't remember you or get too many emails.

If your emails get paused

Your emails waiting to go are held, not lost. We also email you why.

  1. Open Your store → Email.
  2. Read why at the top, and fix the list or the emails.
  3. Tick These people bought from me, signed up, or agreed to hear from me.
  4. Click Resume.

After you resume, emails go first to people who opened or clicked lately, or just bought or signed up. Everyone else gets theirs once about 200 emails land well.

You can resume on your own once every 30 days. If your emails get paused again soon after, contact support at [email protected]. Pauses from Amazon or a review also need support.
