This article explains how long Eden keeps your data, what happens when you delete files, and how to permanently remove your information.
The Short Version
Deleted files stay recoverable for 30 days, then are permanently deleted
Active account data is kept as long as your account exists
Deleted accounts are fully removed after 30 days

Deleting Files
When you delete a file, note, or canvas in Eden:
Days 1-30: Soft Delete (Recoverable)
The item is moved to Trash
You can restore it at any time
It doesn't count against your storage
Team members can no longer access it
After 30 days: Permanent Deletion
The item is permanently removed from our servers
Associated data (transcripts, embeddings, tags) is also deleted
This cannot be undone
How to Delete Files
Right-click on the file, note, or canvas
Select Delete or Move to Trash
Confirm the deletion
How to Restore Deleted Files
Navigate to Trash in your sidebar
Find the item you want to restore
Right-click and select Restore
The item returns to its original location.
How to Permanently Delete Immediately
If you need to delete something immediately without the 30-day recovery period:
Delete the item (moves to Trash)
Go to Trash
Right-click the item
Select Delete Permanently
This action cannot be undone.
Deleting Folders
When you delete a folder:
All contents (files, notes, canvases, subfolders) are also deleted
Everything follows the same 30-day soft delete period
Restoring the folder restores all its contents
Deleting Your Account
When you delete your Eden account:
What happens immediately:
You lose access to your workspace
Team members lose access to your personal content
Your subscription is cancelled
During the 30-day grace period:
Your data is retained but inaccessible
You can contact support to restore your account
No charges are processed
After 30 days:
Your email address and account information are deleted
All your files and content are permanently deleted
Transcripts, search indexes, and AI data are removed
You're removed from any team workspaces
What we keep:
Payment records are retained for 7 years (required for tax/accounting)
Anonymized analytics data may be retained
How to Delete Your Account
Account deletion is currently handled by our support team:
Email support@eden.so from the email address associated with your account
Request account deletion
We'll confirm your identity and process the request
Self-service account deletion is coming soon.
Data from Team Workspaces
If you're part of a team workspace:
Content you created:
Files you uploaded stay in the team workspace when you leave
The team owner retains access to this content
This is because team content is owned by the workspace, not individuals
Your personal workspace:
Remains separate from team workspaces
Follows normal deletion rules
If you're the workspace owner:
Deleting your account affects the entire workspace
Transfer ownership before deleting your account
Team members will lose access if the workspace is deleted
Exporting Your Data
You have the right to download your data at any time.
Exporting Individual Files
Open the file
Click the download icon or use File → Download
The file downloads in its original format
Exporting Multiple Files
To export multiple files:
Create a folder with the content you want to export
Download files individually

AI-Generated Data
When you use Eden's AI features, we generate additional data:
Transcripts — Text versions of your videos and audio
Embeddings — Numerical representations for semantic search
Tags and descriptions — Auto-generated metadata
AI chat history — Your conversations with AI
What happens when you delete content:
All AI-generated data associated with a file is deleted along with the file. This includes:
The transcript
Search embeddings
Auto-generated tags
Any frame analysis data
AI chat history is retained separately. Deleting a canvas deletes the chats on that canvas.
Data Sent to AI Providers
Data sent to our AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.) for processing is transient:
It's used to generate a response
It's not stored by the provider
There's nothing to "delete" on their end

Access: Request information about what data we hold about you
Correct: Update inaccurate or incomplete information
Delete: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
Export: Download your files in their original format
Restrict: Ask us to limit how we use your data
Regional Rights
Additional rights apply based on your location:
EU/UK (GDPR): Right to erasure, data portability, and restriction of processing. We respond within 30 days.
California (CCPA/CPRA): Right to know, delete, and opt-out of sale (we don't sell data). We respond within 45 days.
Canada (PIPEDA): Right to access and challenge accuracy. We respond within 30 days.
Brazil (LGPD): Right to access, correction, and deletion. We respond within 15 days.

Any specific details about your request
We may ask for identity verification to protect your account.
Backups and Recovery
Eden maintains backups of our systems for disaster recovery:
Backups are encrypted using the same standards as live data
Backups are retained for a limited period for recovery purposes
Deleted data is also removed from backups during normal backup rotation
This means that even in our backup systems, your data is eventually removed after deletion.
Common Questions
Can I recover a file after 30 days?
No. After 30 days, deleted files are permanently removed and cannot be recovered. We recommend exporting important files before deletion if you might need them later.
What happens to shared files when I delete them?
If you delete a file you shared with others, they lose access. If someone else shared a file with you and deletes it, you lose access.
Does deleting my account delete team content I created?
No. Content in team workspaces belongs to the workspace, not to you personally. It remains accessible to the team after you leave.
How do I know my data is really deleted?
After the 30-day retention period, data is permanently removed from our primary storage and is removed from backups during normal rotation cycles. We don't retain your content after this process completes.
Can I delete just my AI chat history?
AI chats are tied to canvases. Delete the canvas or the specific chat node to remove the conversation. Deleted chats follow the same 30-day soft delete period.
What if I change my mind after requesting account deletion?
Contact us within 30 days and we can restore your account. After 30 days, the deletion is permanent.
