How to schedule TikTok posts in 2026
Schedule TikTok videos server-side with a caption: the video-only rule, format and length limits, and how to batch TikTok, Reels, and Shorts in one pass.
TikTok's API accepts exactly one kind of post from scheduling tools: a single video with a caption. Get that right and a scheduler publishes it server-side at the slot you pick, devices off. The real win is upstream of TikTok itself: the same vertical video you queue there can go to Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts in the same sitting, with a caption tailored to each. Here is the setup in Eden, the TikTok-specific limits, and the one-edit, three-surfaces batching workflow.
Full disclosure: we make Eden, and the walkthrough uses it. The format rules are TikTok's and bind every scheduler equally.
The one rule: every TikTok post needs a video
TikTok is video-first and its API is stricter than the app: text-only and image posts will not schedule through any tool. A scheduled TikTok post is exactly one video and one caption. If you want to queue something to TikTok, attach a video first; everything else about the post hangs off it.
Scheduling a TikTok post in Eden
- Connect TikTok once. Settings, then Scheduling, then Connected accounts. You sign in on TikTok's own login page and approve the posting permissions; Eden never sees your password.
- Attach the video. In the composer, select TikTok as a target and attach a single video. MP4 encoded with H.264 is the format TikTok accepts, and most accounts can publish up to roughly 10 minutes.
- Write the caption. Up to 2,200 characters, and that is the only text TikTok carries. There is no separate body or link field, so the caption does all the work: hook, context, hashtags.
- Pick a time and save. Choose a slot or publish now. The post publishes from Eden's servers when it is due, whether or not your computer is on.
Shoot or export vertical 9:16. Other aspect ratios still publish, but TikTok letterboxes them, and a letterboxed video looks like a repost before anyone hears a word of it.
What TikTok does not support
Two Eden automations that work elsewhere do not exist on TikTok, because TikTok's API does not offer them:
- No auto first comment. On X, LinkedIn, Threads, Instagram, and Facebook, Eden can post a comment right after your post goes live. TikTok's API has no comment endpoint, so the caption is your only text real estate.
- No threads or carousels. One video, one caption. Multi-part storytelling on TikTok happens across posts, not within one.
If a post cannot publish (a disconnected account, a missing video), it lands in the Attention needed section at the top of your queue with a plain-language reason and one-click fixes, so nothing fails silently.
The batching play: TikTok, Reels, and Shorts in one pass
A vertical video is a vertical video. The platforms differ in ceremony, not format:
- TikTok: up to ~10 minutes, caption up to 2,200 characters.
- Instagram Reels: needs a Professional account connected; the Reels setup guide covers the connect gotchas.
- YouTube Shorts: 9:16 and 3 minutes or under, with a title doing the discovery work; details in the Shorts guide.
In Eden's composer you select all three targets at once, attach the video, then tailor the caption per platform: hashtags for TikTok, a hook title for Shorts, a caption plus first comment for Reels. One edit session, three surfaces, one queue. Since Shorts caps at 3 minutes, a longer TikTok either gets a cut-down for YouTube or skips that target; the composer lets you drop a platform from a post without starting over.
What should the video actually be about? That is the research half: study which short-form hooks are overperforming in your niche before you spend an afternoon filming.
Frequently asked questions
Can you schedule photo or carousel posts to TikTok?
No. TikTok's API only accepts video posts from scheduling tools, so text-only and image posts will not schedule. Photo-mode posts have to be published in the TikTok app itself.
How long can a scheduled TikTok video be?
Most accounts can publish videos up to roughly 10 minutes through the API, as MP4 encoded with H.264. Vertical 9:16 is strongly preferred; other ratios get letterboxed.
Does TikTok penalize scheduled posts?
No. Publishing through TikTok's official API is a normal upload path, and viewers cannot tell the difference. Content and consistency set your reach, and scheduling usually improves the consistency half.
Can a scheduler post a first comment on TikTok?
No. TikTok's API does not support automated comments, so put your CTA in the caption. On platforms that do support it (X, LinkedIn, Threads, Instagram, Facebook), Eden posts the first comment automatically.
