Grid and snapping on the freeform canvas

Turn on the grid

   Open board settings

   Open a board in freeform view. Click the gear in the bottom-right corner.

   Flip the toggles

   Background grid shows faint dots behind the board. Snap to grid makes things snap as you move them.

Both toggles only show in freeform view. They are your own settings: they apply to every freeform board in this browser and never change what teammates see.

How snapping works

With Snap to grid on:

• Items line up with the edges and centers of nearby items first. Guide lines show what you are lining up with.
• If nothing is close on that side, the item snaps to the grid.
• The dots sit on grid points, so with both toggles on, things land on the dots.
• Hold ⌘ (Ctrl on Windows) while you drag or resize to turn snapping off for that one move.

Snap just once

With Snap to grid off, nothing snaps unless you ask. Hold ⌘ while you drag or resize to snap for that move.

• Dragged items line up with nearby items only, not the grid.
• Resizing and moving sections also snap to the grid.
