Proofreading in notes

Eden underlines spelling, grammar, and wordy phrases in your notes as you write, and flags hard-to-read sentences. Hover a mark to fix it or dismiss it.

Proofread is on by default in every note. Hover an underline and click Accept to fix it, or Dismiss to hide it. Needs a paid plan (Personal or above).

What the marks mean

MarkWhat it flags
Red underlineSpelling: typos and words that aren't real words as written.
Blue underlineGrammar: mixed-up words (their/there), missing apostrophes and hyphens, doubled words, capitals, missing periods.
Purple underlineWordy phrases: filler with a shorter swap, like "be able to" for "can".
Amber dotHeavy sentences: a sentence a reader would have to read twice.

Eden never rewrites your style or tone. Names, links, and code are left alone. It works in any language.

Fix or dismiss a mark

  • Hover an underline to see the fix. Click a mark to pin its card open.
  • Accept makes the change. ⌘ Z (Ctrl Z on Windows) undoes it.
  • Dismiss hides it. It won't come back unless you edit that sentence.
  • For an amber dot, click Rephrase to get a few rewrites. Pick one to swap it in.

When it checks

  • A sentence is checked about a second after you pause, once you end it with a period, ?, or !.
  • If you stop typing mid-sentence for about five seconds, it gets checked anyway.
  • Only changed sentences are checked again. Editing a marked word clears its mark.
  • Amber dots are capped at about five per screen, so a long note isn't covered in them.

Turn it off

If something's not working

  • You see an Upgrade button instead of a switch: Proofread needs a paid plan.
  • Nothing is marked in a table or code block: those are skipped.
  • No marks on a shared link: Proofread only runs for workspace members, never on public or shared views.
  • A mark looks wrong: it's an AI proofreader and can miss or misjudge things. Dismiss it.
