Offer a payment plan
Let buyers pay a one-time product in monthly payments instead of all at once.
Open your product's Offer step and turn on Offer a payment plan under Payment plan. Set the number of Payments and Each payment, then save. Buyers choose the plan or paying in full at checkout.
Add a payment plan
- 01
Use a one-time price
On the Offer step, give the product a one-time price. Memberships can't have a payment plan.
- 02
Turn on the plan
Under Payment plan, turn on Offer a payment plan. Set Payments (2 to 12, one a month) and Each payment.
- 03
Save
Click Save. Your product page now says "or 3 payments of $109" under the price.
The payments must add up to at least the full price, and each one must be less than it. The editor shows the total, like "Buyers pay $327 in all ($30 more than in full)."
What buyers see
- Checkout shows two choices: Pay in full and the plan. Paying in full is picked first.
- On the plan, the button says "Pay $109 today", with the dates of the next payments under it.
- They get full access right after the first payment.
- They can't cancel the plan. On the web, Update card in their product's menu changes the card it charges.
How plans work
| Rule | What happens |
|---|---|
| Last payment | The plan ends by itself. Access stays for good. |
| A payment fails | Access pauses right away. The buyer gets an email with a Pay now button. Paying brings access back. |
| Payments stop | If the payment is never made and Stripe gives up, the plan stops for good. |
| Discount codes | A code takes the same share off every payment. 20% off is 20% off each one. |
| Included AI credits | They arrive with the first payment. |
| Order bumps | Not offered with the plan. They still show when buyers pay in full. |
Track your plans
- Your Overview shows Still owed on plans: the payments left on plans still running.
- In Customers, a plan reads "Plan 2/3", "Plan paused", "Paid in full", or "Plan ended early".
- Every payment counts in your sales as it comes in.
End a plan early or refund a payment
Open the buyer in Customers.
| To do this | Do this |
|---|---|
| Stop the payments, keep their access | Click ⋯ on the product, then End plan, keep access. No more payments are taken. You can't undo it. |
| Refund one later payment | Under Later payments, click Refund next to the payment. Their access and the plan stay as they are. |
| Refund the first payment | Click ⋯, then Refund payment. This also stops the plan and removes their access. |
| Remove their access | Click ⋯, then Revoke access. This stops the payments left. No money goes back. |
