Send email from your own domain

Send your store emails from an address like [email protected] instead of your Eden address, and decide if it's right for you.

·3 min read

Open Your store → Email → Settings and find Your own domain. Type your domain, pick your main domain or a subdomain, click Continue, then add the DNS records Eden shows. Needs Pro or higher.

Set it up

  1. 01

    Type your domain

Type the domain you own, like yourname.com. Under Send from, pick Your main domain or A subdomain (like mail.yourname.com), then click Continue.

  2. 02

    Add the records

Eden shows where your DNS is managed (like Cloudflare or GoDaddy) with a link to it. Add the three CNAME records and the TXT record. Click Copy next to each name and value. Skip the TXT record if your domain already has a DMARC record.

  3. 03

    Pick your address

Under Your address, type the name before the @ (like dan or hello) and click Save. It starts as your store handle. You can do this while the records go in.

  4. 04

    Wait for the check marks

Eden checks on its own and shows how many records it found. Most show up within an hour. Click Check now to look again. When all four are found, your emails come from your new address.

  • Names are shown without your domain on the end (like abc._domainkey), the way most DNS hosts want them. If yours asks for the full name, add your domain to the end.
  • On Cloudflare, set the CNAME records to DNS only (gray cloud).
  • Replies still go to the address in Replies go to.
  • No rush. If the records aren't in after 3 days, Eden emails you a reminder. Add them whenever you're ready and Eden switches you over. If the records on the page change, add the new ones.

Add the bounce records too

Under Recommended: bounce records, Eden shows an MX and a TXT record for edenmail.yourname.com. They send bounces back through your own domain, which helps Gmail trust it. Your emails don't wait for them.

Main domain or subdomain?

  • Your main domain ([email protected]): readers already know it. Best for most people.
  • A subdomain ([email protected]): spam reports on your sales emails stay away from the mail you send by hand. Good if you already use your domain for a lot of everyday email.

Should you use your own domain?

Good for youWorth knowing
Your sending reputation is yours. Other senders on Eden can't drag it down.It cuts both ways. If people mark your emails as spam, your domain takes the hit.
Readers see an address from you, so they trust it and open it more.A domain that has never sent email starts with no history. Build up slowly.
The reputation you build stays with your domain if you ever switch email tools. It takes about 10 minutes of DNS setup.
Your emails match your website and your brand. If the records get deleted, emails go back to your Eden address until you fix them.

Stay on your Eden address if you're just starting, your list is small, or you don't own a domain. It's already set up to land in the inbox.

If something's not working

  • A record never gets a check mark: check for typos, and that the name doesn't end in your domain twice (like yourname.com.yourname.com).
  • "Another store already uses that domain": contact support if the domain is yours.
  • "Free inboxes like Gmail can't send for you": you need a domain you own. Gmail, Outlook, and iCloud addresses can't be used.
  • The records stopped checking out: Eden emails you, and the card shows the records again. Add them back and your emails switch to your domain once they check out.
  • Your plan dropped below Pro: emails come from your Eden address. Your domain stays set up and comes back when you upgrade.
