Tagging items with workspace tags

Create colored tags shared across your workspace, apply them to notes, links, PDFs, and posts from the Library or a board, tag at save time, and filter your Library by tag.

Tags are colored labels shared by everyone in your workspace. Put them on notes, links, PDFs, tables, and saved posts, then pull up everything with a tag in one click — from the Library filter, from chat, or from a shared link.

Boards answer "where does this live." Tags answer "what is this about" — and one item can carry several. A "client-a" tag can sit on a note, a saved YouTube video, and a table at once, no matter which boards they're on. Tags are workspace-wide: when a teammate creates one, you see it too, and you both pick from the same list.

Boards and chats themselves can't be tagged — tags are for the items inside them.

Tagging a single item

You have a few ways in, all leading to the same picker:

  • The # token on Library cards. Hover a card in your Library and a small # appears in its meta row, with a count once the item has tags. Click it to open the tag picker right there.
  • Right-click → Tags… on a card in the Library, on a board, or on an item in the sidebar.
  • The item's settings menu. Open a note, table, or saved post and choose Tags from its ⚙ settings dropdown.
  • On iPhone and Android: a tagged card names its tag underneath it, in the Library and on boards alike. Tap that to open the picker. Untagged cards stay clean — to tag one, press and hold it and choose Tags.

The picker shows every tag in the workspace with a search field. Tick to add, untick to remove. Type a name that doesn't exist yet and a Create row appears — new tags start gray, and you can recolor them later.

Tagging many items at once

Select several items and tag them in one go:

  • In the Library: select multiple cards, then use Tags in the selection bar at the bottom, or right-click for Tag N items….
  • On a board: select cards in grid or list view and use Tags in the toolbar.

When your selection is mixed — some items have the tag, some don't — the picker shows a mixed state, and ticking applies the tag to all of them.

Tag at save time

You don't have to save first and tag later. A small # button sits in the save composers:

  • The ⌘K capture composer, when saving to your Library.
  • The paste-a-link dialog in the Library.
  • The save dialog when you save a post from Discover.
  • The capture composer in the mobile apps.
  • The share sheet on iOS and Android, when you send a link, photo, or PDF to Eden from another app.
  • The browser extension popup, when you save a link.

Pick tags before you hit save and the item lands already tagged.

On the mobile share sheet the picker stays out of the way: tap the # beside Add note and a row of tags slides out under it. Tap tags to pick them, or type a name nothing matches and tap the +"name" pill to make it on the spot. New tags made here start gray; recolor them later in Settings → Tags.

Tagging highlights from your Kindle notes

If you write a note on a Kindle highlight, put a #tag in it and Eden turns it into a real tag when the highlight syncs in. Highlight the passage, add the note "the compounding argument #habits", and the card that lands in your Library carries the habits tag.

  • The tag matches an existing workspace tag if there is one, and is created if there isn't. New tags made this way start gray.
  • Only your note is read, never the highlighted passage itself — hashtags inside a quote or a tweet stay part of the quote.
  • The #tag is stripped from the note shown on the card, so it reads "the compounding argument" with a habits tag beside it.
  • A tag must start with a letter and be at least two characters, so page markers like "#1" are ignored. Up to five tags per highlight.
  • Remove a tag Eden added and it stays removed — later syncs won't put it back.

Readwise and Snipd highlights work the same way, and any tags you already put on a highlight inside Readwise come across as workspace tags too.

Filtering your Library by tag

Once you're using tags, a Tags menu joins the filter row under the Library search bar. Tick one tag to see everything carrying it; tick several and they combine like the Topic menu — an item matching any selected tag shows. The tag selection narrows whatever your Type and Source picks returned, so "PDFs + client-a" means PDFs tagged client-a.

Tag picks live in the page URL, so you can bookmark or share a filtered view.

The iPhone and Android apps have the same menu: scroll the filter row in your Library past Topic and you'll find Tags, with a count beside each one. Each card also names its own tag underneath it, so you can see what's tagged without opening anything.

Managing tags in Settings

Settings → Tags is the workspace's tag manager. From there you can:

  • Create a tag with a name and color.
  • Rename or recolor an existing tag — the change applies everywhere the tag is used, instantly.
  • Delete a tag, which removes it from every item carrying it (the items themselves are untouched).
  • See how many items each tag holds and jump to them.

Tag colors come from the same palette as board line and shape colors, so a tag looks consistent anywhere it shows up.

Tagging from inside a note

Type # anywhere in a note and a picker of your workspace tags opens. Keep typing to narrow it, then press Enter to insert the tag as a chip. Picking a tag also tags the note itself, so it shows up under that tag in the Library. If nothing matches, the first row is Create "name", which makes the tag (gray by default, recolor it in Settings → Tags) and applies it in one step.

Click a tag chip in any note to open the Library filtered to that tag.

Tags in chat

Eden AI knows your tags. In chat you can ask it to list your workspace's tags, tag or untag items for you ("tag these three notes with research"), and narrow a search to tagged items ("find my notes tagged client-a about pricing").
