Import your Evernote notes

Bring Evernote notebooks into your Eden Library from an .enex export. Works in the browser and the desktop app.

Export your notebooks from Evernote as .enex files. Then go to Settings → Import, click Import from Evernote, and choose the files. Every note lands in your Library.

Export from Evernote

  1. Right-click a notebook and choose Export.
  2. Pick the ENEX format, not HTML or PDF.
  3. Repeat for each notebook you want. Each one saves as its own .enex file.

Import into Eden

    Open the importer

    Go to Settings → Import and click Import from Evernote.

    Choose your files

    Click Choose .enex files and pick one or more. You can also pick a zip of them, click Choose a folder, or drag the files onto the window. Nothing uploads yet.

    Check the summary

    Eden shows how many notes, tags, and attachments it found. On a repeat import it also shows what is new or changed.

    Click Import. Keep the window open until it finishes, then click Open Library.

What comes over

Import again or undo

  • Run it again any time. New notes are added and notes you changed in Evernote are updated.
  • A note you edited in Eden is never overwritten.
  • A note you deleted in Eden comes back on the next import.
  • Eden remembers notes by notebook, created date, and title. A renamed note imports as a new copy.
  • To find imported notes, open Filter → Source in the Library and pick Evernote.
  • To undo, click Remove imported notes on the card. The notes move to Trash. Tags stay.

If something's off

  • "No .enex files were found": export a notebook as ENEX first, then choose that file.
  • A file is over 800 MB: export that notebook in smaller pieces.
  • More than 5,000 notes: import fewer notebooks at once.
  • "That zip is over 2 GB": choose the .enex files instead of the zip.
  • Import stopped early: you hit the Free plan's 100-item limit. The summary warns you first. Upgrade, then import again.
  • Attachments skipped: files over 15 MB are left out.
  • A note ends with "Note truncated on import": notes over about 180,000 characters are cut.
