Add custom instructions to Eden AI
Give Eden standing guidance for every chat — your preferred tone, response format, recurring rules, and things the AI should avoid.
Custom instructions are the rules you should not have to repeat at the start of every chat. Tell Eden how concise to be, how to format its answers, what to include, and what to avoid. Once saved, they follow your account into every workspace and apply automatically to new and existing chats.
Add your instructions
- 01
Open Personalization
Go to Settings → AI → Personalization.
- 02
Add the context Eden should always know
Under How Eden knows you, enter what Eden should call you and a short description of your work, audience, and goals. Keep facts about you here instead of repeating them in the instruction box.
- 03
Write your standing rules
Under Custom instructions, describe how Eden should respond. The field saves when you click away from it. A Saved label confirms the change; there is no separate save button.
A useful starting template
Paste this into How should Eden respond?, then replace the examples with your own preferences:
Keep replies concise and use plain language. Lead with the answer, then explain only what is necessary. When I ask for ideas, give me three distinct options. Use short paragraphs and bullets when they make the answer easier to scan. Do not use hashtags, emojis, or filler phrases. If a request is ambiguous, state the assumption you are making.
Good instructions describe behavior Eden can observe. "Give me three options and recommend one" is more useful than "be helpful." "Use sentences under 20 words" is clearer than "make it punchy."
What belongs in each field
- What should Eden call you? Your name or nickname.
- About you and your work: Stable context — what you do, who you help, what you are building, and the goals Eden should keep in mind.
- Custom instructions: Response rules — tone, length, structure, recurring requirements, and things to avoid.
- Writing voice: The style and cadence of your writing. Build this as a Custom AI when examples are more useful than a few rules.
Keep project-specific details out of global custom instructions. Put a client brief, campaign goal, or one-off deliverable in the relevant chat, board, or Custom AI instead.
How instructions combine with the rest of Eden
Custom instructions are your default, not a lock. A specific request in the current chat takes priority. A Custom AI keeps its own persona and job, and an active skill adds the method for the task.
Your selected writing voice is separate: custom instructions control how Eden should respond, while the voice guides how drafted language should sound. For example, you can ask Eden to "always give three options" in custom instructions and use a voice Custom AI to supply your cadence, vocabulary, and do-not-use phrases.
Edit or remove instructions
Return to Settings → AI → Personalization, change the text, and click elsewhere to save. To remove the instructions completely, clear the field and click away. The next message you send uses the updated version.
Personalizing Eden AI
Tell Eden's AI who you are, add standing instructions, and choose a writing voice so new chats start with the right context.
Set a Custom AI as your writing voice
Build a voice Custom AI from representative writing, then make its style the default for every chat you start in that Eden workspace.
Using Skills in Eden AI
Skills are portable SKILL.md instruction files the AI can activate in any chat. Create them in chat, write them by hand, or upload one from Claude — and export them byte-exact.
