When Eden uses tasks

Tasks are available automatically. Eden can delegate a substantial, independent investigation when separate working context or parallel research will help. You can also ask it to “spin off tasks.” Simple lookups and tightly connected edits stay in the original conversation.

For example:

Research my Instagram and LinkedIn performance separately, compare the patterns, and write a strategy note with evidence from both platforms.

You don't need to choose a task count or configure concurrency. Eden applies limits to concurrent work and credit usage. Tasks use chat credits and can run for up to 20 minutes. Generated media uses its normal credits, too.

A routine decides when a chat runs, such as every Monday. A task handles part of that chat's work. A scheduled routine can use tasks and wait for their results before reporting completion.

What a task receives

Each task gets a brief with its objective, relevant context, and the expected result. A Custom AI's tasks also inherit its instructions and knowledge access. They do not automatically receive the parent conversation's full history.

Tasks can use the chat's permitted research tools, uploaded files, knowledge, and connected services. They can create notes, tables, images, carousels, and drafts, then refine their own work. To edit an existing item, the parent must assign that specific item to the task.

Scheduling, publishing, and connected-service writes require an action you have authorized and the parent has specifically delegated. Creating a research task does not grant permission to publish. Tasks cannot start more tasks or change routines and chat setup. Your original chat brings the finished work together.

Follow progress and open the receipts

When Eden delegates, a task card appears in the conversation itself. It lists every task from that turn with a status dot, a running timer, and a "now doing" line that updates as the task works ("Analyzing creator @handle", "Reading post"). Use Stop on a row to cancel that task, or select the title to open the task's own chat. Once every task finishes, the card folds into a one-line summary and Eden's combined answer continues right under it.

While tasks run, the composer shows how long the chat has been waiting on them. Eden does not estimate how long they will take. In the chat list, the parent chat pulses like any other chat that is working in the background.

The Tasks section in the right sidebar shows the same work grouped by turn: the latest turn is open and earlier turns fold under Earlier tasks. Child chats stay out of your main chat list unless you pin them.

A task's chat opens in its own pane beside the parent. It is read-only: the task reports back to the chat that started it, so ask for changes there.

You can leave the chat while work runs. When its tasks settle, the parent continues automatically. If you send a newer message first, Eden leaves the results available without starting an outdated response. Ask it to use the task results when you are ready.

Use Stop beside a task to cancel it. Stopping the parent also cancels its active tasks. To refine an earlier result, ask the parent to follow up with that task. The follow-up uses the same child chat and has its own execution record and budget.

Research memory

Large research results are saved separately from the chat's conversation summary. When the chat needs an earlier finding, it can search those saved findings or reopen the exact result without repeating the external research. Coverage gaps and failed summaries remain marked as incomplete.

Custom AIs also have a small private memory per person: whether setup is done, decisions made, where their notes live, and how far they got. It carries across your chats with that AI and is separate from research evidence.

Scheduled routines wait for delegated work and the parent response before reporting completion. If a task fails or lacks access, the parent can use the other results and explain what is missing.

A task may use an internal reader to work through a long PDF or transcript without creating more visible tasks. Research findings retain references to saved source text so the AI can reopen the evidence later.
