Custom AI

Give your Custom AI a routine

Attach a routine to a Custom AI and its scheduled runs open as chats with that AI — its knowledge, instructions, and voice — with one-click suggested routines on the built-ins.

A routine tells Eden what to do and when. A Custom AI knows how you want it done: your knowledge, your instructions, your voice. Put them together and the routine's scheduled runs open as chats with that Custom AI, so a strategist runs its full method every Monday and a newsletter writer drafts in your voice every week, without you opening a chat.

How the two connect

Every routine can belong to a Custom AI. When it does, each scheduled run is a chat with that AI: it loads the AI's instructions and connected knowledge, writes in its voice, and the run's chat sits in your chat list under that AI like any conversation you'd start yourself.

There are four ways a routine gets attached:

  • Ask for it while building the AI. Tell the guided builder the schedule as part of the job ("build me a strategist that runs every Monday at 8am") and the routine appears right on the creation card. Confirm the card and the AI and its routine are created together.
  • Create it inside the AI's chat. Ask for a routine while chatting with a Custom AI ("every Monday at 8am, run my weekly sweep") and it binds to that AI automatically.
  • Create it from the AI's page. Every Custom AI you own has a Routines card on its configure page, showing only that AI's routines. Anything you create there belongs to it, and the form lets you choose any model from Eden's chat model picker.
  • Create it from Claude, Cursor, or any agent on the Eden MCP. The MCP has routine tools: an agent that just built a Custom AI for you can bind a schedule to it in the same conversation, and it can list, pause, or change your routines later. Runs still happen inside Eden, as chats with that AI.

A routine with no Custom AI just runs as plain Eden chat. Both kinds appear together in Settings → Routines.

Suggested routines on the built-ins

Built-in Custom AIs whose job naturally repeats come with suggested routines: one-click prefills on their Routines card. Weekly Strategist suggests its weekly strategy sweep, Topic Research suggests a weekly topic radar, and so on. Clicking a suggestion opens the create form with the title, prompt, and schedule filled in, so you review before anything is created.

These prompts are written for unattended runs: they work autonomously, carry their own context, and save their results to the AI's board so each run builds on the last.

Pairings that work

  • Weekly Strategist + weekly routine. The full market sweep, your scoreboard, and one content bet, waiting every Monday morning. See Weekly Strategist.
  • A newsletter writer + weekly routine. A draft issue in your voice from the week's saved research, ready for your edit. See newsletter writer.
  • A research analyst + daily routine. A short morning brief on your niche from an AI whose knowledge is your own boards and creator lists. See research analyst for your niche.
  • A client's AI + weekly routine. If you run one Custom AI per client, give each one a weekly drafts routine and start every client's week with work to review.

Delegate parts of a routine

Custom AI routines can automatically delegate substantial independent research or drafting to child chats and combine their results. The Tasks section appears in the right sidebar when used. Completion notifications wait for that final response. See background tasks.
