Chat in a community
Send messages, photos, voice notes,
Open the community's Chat tab, type in the box at the bottom, and send. Most communities have one chat, called General.
On the web, a community always opens in its own tab, so Eden stays open where you were. In the desktop app it opens in the same window, and the pop-out icon gives it a window of its own.
Send a message
- On the web, press
Enterto send andShift Enterfor a new line. - Type
@and pick a name to mention someone. - Hosts can type
@everyoneto ping everyone who can see the channel. It counts as a mention for each of them. For anyone else,@everyoneis just text. - Type
#and pick a channel or a Forum category to link it. It shows as #Name. Tap it to go there. It doesn't ping anyone. Links work in channels and threads, not in direct messages. - Reply to someone's message and they get pinged, the same as a mention.
- Add up to 4 photos to a message. On the web, click Add images, paste, or drag them in. On a phone, tap the photo button.
- You don't have to wait for photos to upload. Send right away and the message shows up with a ring on each photo until it's uploaded. If you close the app or the tab first, it sends the next time you open Eden.
- To put a link on your own words, select the words and paste the link. They turn into
[words](link)in the box and send as a link that reads "words". You can also type that yourself. - Send a link and a card with its title and picture shows up a moment later. Links straight to a file, like a photo or PDF, don't get one. On your own message, click the × on the card to remove it.
- Send a post link from X, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, or Substack and it shows as a post card, like in Discover. It has the post's numbers, and an outlier badge when the post did far better than that creator's usual. The card can take a minute the first time Eden sees a creator.
- Click the save button on a post card to keep it. On the web you pick your Library or a board. On a phone, tap Save and it goes to your Library.
Format your messages
Type the marks around your words. They show formatted once you send, on the web and on phones.
| Type this | You get |
|---|---|
**bold** | bold |
_italic_ | italic |
~~strike~~ | |
`code` | code |
```code``` | A code block |
- On the web, select words and press
Cmd Bfor bold,Cmd Ifor italic, orCmd Shift Xfor strike. On Windows, useCtrl. - For a code block over several lines, type
```.Enteradds a new line until you type the closing```, thenEntersends. - Nothing inside code is formatted, so you can paste code as is.
Use slash commands
On the web, type / at the start of the box to see a short list. Pick one with the arrow keys and
Enter, or click it. Words you type after the command go along as your message.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/board | Share one of your boards |
/table | Share one of your tables |
/note | Share one of your notes |
/post | Send a forum post as a card |
/event | Send an upcoming event as a card |
/schedule | Post a message later, as the community (owner and admins) |
/post and /event show only when the community has Forum or Events on. They don't work in
threads or direct messages. /schedule shows only for the owner and admins, in a channel's main
chat. See Schedule messages in a channel.
Share a board, table, or note
Paste the link of a public Eden board, table, or note in the chat. It shows as a card with Duplicate and Open.
- It stays live: when the owner changes the item, everyone sees the new version.
- Members can open it but can't edit it. Duplicate copies it into their own workspace, and you stay in the community. Boards land with your boards, tables in your Library, and notes on a board you pick. Click Open on the note at the bottom to see the copy in a new tab.
- In more than one workspace? Pick which one before it copies.
- In a forum post, use Share a board, table, or note in the post editor. It turns on the item's view link for you.
- From your workspace, right-click a board, table, note, or saved post (or a post in Discover) and pick Share to community. Pick the community and channel, add a message, and click Send. It turns on the item's view link for you. In some menus it sits under Share.
Share a product
On the web, open Products, click ⋯ on a product, then Send to channel (Tell members if you run the community). Its card shows in the chat.
- Members who own it see Open.
- Everyone else sees its price and View, which opens its page.
- On a phone, the card shows the cover and title, and opens if you own it.
Channels
Some hosts add more channels, like Wins or Help. When there are two or more, you see a list of them on the left on the web. On a phone, Chat opens your last channel. Go back to see the list.
- You only see the channels you have access to. Some are just for buyers of a certain product.
- Only hosts can post here. means the channel is for the host's updates.
- This channel is closed. means it's read-only now. You can still read it.

Fold sections
Some hosts group channels under sections, small gray labels like Start here or VIP.
- Click or tap a section's label to fold it. Click it again to open it.
- A folded section shows a red number when something inside needs you, and a gray dot for new messages.
- Folding is just for you, on that device.
- You only see sections you have access to. A section for a tag or product you don't have is hidden, with no label and no lock.
- A channel you pinned shows in your pins at the top, not in its section.
Show only unread channels
On the web, click Unread next to Channels to hide the channels you've read. Click it again to see them all. The channel you're in always stays. Your choice is saved for that community on that device.
Mark channels and chats read or unread

- Mark all read: right-click Chat on the left to clear every channel, or Messages to clear every direct message.

To say something with it, type in Add a message before you pick the channel. The forwarded message then shows as a quote, with your words under it. @mentions work there too.
- You only see channels you can post in.
- You can't edit the message you added to a forward.
- A forwarded message keeps the first person who wrote it, even if you forward a forward.

Keep a good message in your own Library or on a board. On the web, right-click it and pick Save to Eden.
- 01

A message with words, photos, and a link lists each part. Untick what you don't want.
- 02

Pick Library or a board. You can also make a new board here. If you're in more than one workspace, switch workspaces at the top.
- 03
Save
Click Save. Then click Open on the note at the bottom to see it.

| An event card | A link to the event's page |

Reply in a thread
A thread keeps a side conversation under one message, so the channel stays easy to follow.
- 01
Open the thread
Pick Reply in thread on a message. Or tap the blue replies link under a message that already has a thread.
- 02
Write your reply
The thread takes over the chat: the first message on top, the replies under it, and a box that says Reply in thread. Use the back arrow at the top to go back to the channel.
- Thread replies don't show in the channel. The message shows how many replies it has and when the last one came.
- You follow a thread once you write in it, get mentioned in it, or wrote the first message. New replies show up in your bell.
- In a channel where Only hosts can post here., members can still reply in threads.
Save a whole thread
On the web, open the thread's ⋯ at the top and pick Save thread to Eden. Or right-click the first message of a thread and pick More. The first message and every reply land as one document in your Library or on a board. Very long threads keep the newest 500 replies.
Send a voice note
With the box empty, you have two ways to record:
- Hold the mic to record. Let go to stop.
- Or click or tap the mic to record hands-free. Click the red stop button when you're done.
Then play it back to check it. Click send, or click the trash to throw it away. Notes can be up to 5 minutes. At 5:00 it stops so you can check it.
To listen to a voice note:
- Tap play, or tap the bars to jump ahead.
- Tap 1x to switch to 1.5x or 2x. Your device remembers it.
- When a note ends, the next voice note below it starts on its own.
- Tap Aa to turn a note into text. It's free, and everyone sees the text after that. Tap Aa again to hide it for you.
- You can't edit a voice note. Delete it and record a new one.
Pins, join lines, and search
- Pinned: hosts and moderators pin key messages, like the rules. They sit in a bar at the top of the chat. Open it and pick one to jump there.
- "Dan pinned a message": a gray line shows in the chat when a host pins something. Tap it to jump to the pinned message. If the host picked Pin and notify everyone, you also get a notification.
- "Maya joined": when someone new joins, a small line shows in General. People who join close together share a line, like "Maya and 6 others joined." Tap it to see who.
- 👋 Wave: on a line for one new person, tap 👋 Wave to send them a 👋 reply.
- Search: on the web, the Search bar above the channels finds messages and forum posts, and the search button next to a channel's name looks in that channel only. On a phone, tap the search button at the top.
Save a member's message as a testimonial
Hosts and admins can keep a member's win for their store. On the web, right-click the message (or open a forum post or reply's menu) and pick Save as testimonial. In chat it sits under Admin.
- The name, photo, and words fill in for you. Change anything before you click Save.
- Pick the product it's for. Leave Feature on my store on to add it to your store page.
- It lands in Your store → Inbox → Testimonials, published. The member isn't told.
- Saving the same message twice shows Already saved.
See Collect testimonials.
Report a message
Open the message's menu (right-click on the web, long-press on a phone) and pick Report. Choose Spam or selling, Rude or mean, Off topic, or Something else, add a note if you want, and send it. A moderator takes a look.
If something's not working
- The send button counts down: the channel has slow mode. You see Slow mode and the wait next to the box's buttons.
- The box says "You're muted": a moderator muted you. You can still read and react.
- The mic won't record: allow the microphone for Eden. On the web, turn it on for this site in your browser's settings. On a phone, turn on Microphone for Eden in your phone's settings.
- "Can't play this one here": a note recorded in Firefox may not play on an iPhone. Tap Aa to read it.
- "This community is out of file space": the community's storage is full. Messages still send. Photos, voice notes, and videos work again once the owner makes room.
