Add notes to saved items

Attach a short "why I saved this" note to any saved post or link. It shows on the Library card, travels with the item onto boards, and is searchable.

·2 min read

You saved that post for a reason — capture it before you forget. Notes are short annotations that live on the item itself: they show up on the Library card, follow the item onto every board, and turn up in search.

When you save a social post or a link, the reason you saved it is usually the most valuable part — a hook worth stealing, a stat for a future post, a counter-argument to your last thread. A note pins that thought to the item so it's still there when you come back a week later.

Add a note

  1. 01

    Open the saved item

Click any saved post or link in your Library or on a board to open its detail pane.

  2. 02

    Click “Add a note…”

The note box sits at the top, above the post. Click it and type why you saved the item.

  3. 03

    Click away to save

The note saves as you go — there's no save button. Click the note text any time to edit it, or clear the text to remove the note.

The same note box appears at the top of the post detail screen in the iOS and Android apps, so you can annotate saves from your phone too.

Add a note while saving

You don't have to open the item afterwards — link and social-post saves have a note field right in the save flow:

  • Save post to board. Saving a post from Discover (or any post card's save menu) opens the board picker — a note field sits under the board list. Type your reason, then save as usual.
  • Insert Link dialog. Pasting a link in the web app — New → Insert a link on a board, New → Insert a link in the Library, or Paste link in the command menu — shows an Add a note row under the link field. Click it, type your reason, and it saves with the link.
  • Quick capture. In the command menu's Capture tab, the link mode has the same Add a note row under the link field when you're saving to the Library or a board.
  • Chrome extension. The save popup has an Add a note… field under the destination picker. Type your reason, then save as usual.
  • Phone share sheet. Sharing a link to Eden from another app (iOS or Android) shows the same note field above the board list. Fill it in before you pick a destination.
  • Saving a post in the app. The "Save to" slide-up on a Discover post (iOS or Android) has Add note and # tag buttons at the top. Fill them in before you pick a board.

The note lands on the item together with the save, so it's already on the Library card when the item appears.

Where notes show up

  • On the Library card. Items with a note show its first line under the preview, so you can scan your Library and remember why each save mattered.
  • In search. Library search matches note text, so searching a word from your note surfaces the item — even when the word never appears in the post itself.
  • Everywhere the item lives. The note is attached to the item, not to a board. Save the item to three boards and all three show the same note.

Notes vs. comments

A note is one short answer to "why is this here?" — a single editable text box. Comments are a conversation: threaded, per-person, with replies and resolve. Use the note for the reason you saved something, and comments when you want your team to weigh in.
