TikTok Creative Center: how to find winning ads (2026 guide)

How to use TikTok Creative Center's Top Ads for research: real CTR and view metrics, keyword insights, its blind spots, and how to save what you find.

TikTok Creative Center is the closest thing in ad research to being handed the answer key. Unlike Meta's Ad Library, which hides all performance data, TikTok publishes its top-performing auction ads with real numbers: click-through rate, views, likes, and where in the video people stop watching. Here is how to use it properly, where it falls short, and how to build a research habit around it.

Full disclosure: we make Eden, which pulls TikTok's top ads into its ad research feed. Everything below works with the free Creative Center alone.

What TikTok Creative Center is

TikTok runs it at ads.tiktok.com/business/creativecenter, and it is a set of free research tools for advertisers. The parts worth your time:

  • Top Ads is the flagship: a gallery of high-performing auction ads, filterable by region, industry, objective, and time window.
  • Keyword Insights shows the words and phrases appearing in top-performing ad copy and voiceovers, with popularity and CTR context.
  • Trends covers trending hashtags, songs, and creators by region and industry.

There is also a separate Commercial Content Library covering ads shown in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. That one is a transparency tool like Meta's library (searchable by advertiser, no performance data), and it is the answer when you need a specific brand's TikTok ads rather than the top of the whole platform.

Why Top Ads is different from every other ad library

Meta shows you everything and tells you nothing about performance. TikTok does the opposite: it curates a sample of winners and tells you exactly how they performed. On each Top Ad you can see:

  • CTR, the number everyone else makes you guess at
  • Views and likes
  • The retention curve, showing second by second where viewers dropped off
  • Clicks over time, showing whether the ad front-loads or sustains

The retention curve is the underrated one. Open any top ad and look at where the curve dips. The moments before a dip are where the ad lost people; the flat stretches are where the hook held. Study ten curves in your niche and you will internalize what a working TikTok hook rhythm feels like better than any course can teach you.

How to research with it, step by step

  1. Filter to your region and industry, set the time window to the last 30 days, and sort by CTR.
  2. Watch the first two seconds of the top twenty ads, nothing more. Write down each hook's mechanic (question, pattern interrupt, bold claim, before/after, POV). You will see three or four mechanics repeat. Those are what works in your niche right now.
  3. Re-sort by "likes" to find the ads that worked as content, not just as ads. These are the ones worth studying for native feel.
  4. Open the five best and read their retention curves. Note the timestamp of the first big dip and what happened on screen just before it.
  5. Run your niche's core terms through Keyword Insights and note which phrases carry high CTR. This is copywriting research with receipts.

Thirty minutes of this beats hours of passive scrolling, because every example comes pre-verified by data.

The blind spots

Be honest about what Creative Center cannot do:

  • No competitor search in Top Ads. You cannot type a brand name and see their ads. The sample is TikTok's curation, not a complete index. For advertiser-level search you need the EU Commercial Content Library or a third-party tool.
  • It is a sample, not a census. Advertisers can opt their ads out of Top Ads, and TikTok decides what qualifies. Absence of a brand proves nothing.
  • Winners rotate out. An ad you found last week may be gone next week, and there is no save feature beyond a basic favorites list tied to a TikTok ads account.
  • Auction ads only. Spark Ads amplifying organic posts, and anything from brands that opted out, will not appear.

Keeping what you find

The rotation problem is the real workflow killer: Creative Center is a feed, not a library. The fix is the same as with Meta's Ad Library: move winners into a swipe file you control the moment you find them.

Eden does this as one motion. Its ad research feed includes TikTok's top ads with their real metrics attached (CTR, views, likes), ranked alongside Meta ads from tracked brands. Save any ad to a board and Eden keeps a permanent copy of the media and the numbers, so the ad is still there, still watchable, and still comparable months after TikTok rotated it out. Browsing the feed is free: create an account and open Discover.

Frequently asked questions

Is TikTok Creative Center free?

Yes. Some sections ask you to log in with a (free) TikTok for Business account, but there is nothing to pay for.

Can I see a specific competitor's TikTok ads?

Not through Top Ads. Use the TikTok Commercial Content Library, which is searchable by advertiser but only covers ads shown in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, and shows no performance data. For US-only advertisers, there is no official way to enumerate their TikTok ads.

Are Creative Center metrics real?

Yes, they come from TikTok's own auction data, which is what makes it unique among ad libraries. Treat them as relative signals (this ad's CTR versus that ad's) rather than absolute benchmarks, since the displayed sample is already filtered to winners.

How often should I check it?

The Top Ads gallery meaningfully changes week to week. A weekly 30-minute pass with the workflow above is enough to stay current, provided you save what you find, since much of it will be gone by the next pass.

Yes, the Trends section covers hashtags, songs, and creators. Useful context, but the ads-specific tools (Top Ads and Keyword Insights) are where the research value is concentrated.
