Using sections to organize a board

Add a section

   Start a section

   Click the board background and press S. Or click + at the bottom of the board and pick Add section.

   Name it

   Keep it short, like "Drafts" or "Hooks". Click Create.

A chip bar shows at the top of the board with All plus one chip per section.

Move items into a section

• Drag an item onto a section's chip.
• Or right-click an item and pick Move to Section. This works on a group of selected items too.
• To take an item out of every section, drag it onto All, or pick No section.

An item sits in one section at a time. Moving it to a new section takes it out of the old one.

Filter by section

• Click a chip to see only that section's items.
• Click All to see everything. In All, items stay grouped by section.
• Hover a chip to highlight its items on the board.

Filtering never hides items for good. Click All and they're back.

Rename, recolor, reorder, or delete

Right-click a chip:

• Pick a color from the swatches.
• Rename changes the label.
• Delete removes the section. Its items stay on the board with no section.

Drag chips left or right to reorder them. All always stays first.

Sections in Freeform

The chip bar shows in Grid and List views. In Freeform, Add section drops a section box on the canvas instead. See working fast in Freeform.

Section or separate board?

• Use a section when the items are parts of one project, like Ideas, Research, and Drafts.
• Use a separate board when the work is a different project. Group related boards in a folder.
