Chat in a community
Send messages, photos, voice notes, and Eden boards, tables, and notes, reply in threads, react, forward, and find old messages in a community's chat.
Open the community's Chat tab, type in the box at the bottom, and send. Most communities have one chat, called General.
On the web, a community always opens in its own tab, so Eden stays open where you were. In the desktop app it opens in the same window, and the pop-out icon gives it a window of its own.
Send a message
- On the web, press
Enterto send andShift Enterfor a new line. - Type
@and pick a name to mention someone. - Hosts can type
@everyoneto ping everyone who can see the channel. It counts as a mention for each of them. For anyone else,@everyoneis just text. - Reply to someone's message and they get pinged, the same as a mention.
- Add up to 4 photos to a message. On the web, click Add images, paste, or drag them in. On a phone, tap the photo button.
- Send a link and a card with its title and picture shows up a moment later. Links straight to a file, like a photo or PDF, don't get one. On your own message, click the × on the card to remove it.
Share a board, table, or note
Paste the link of a public Eden board, table, or note in the chat. It shows as a card with Duplicate and Open.
- It stays live: when the owner changes the item, everyone sees the new version.
- Members can open it but can't edit it. Duplicate copies it into their own workspace.
- In a Library post, use Share a board, table, or note in the post editor. It turns on the item's view link for you.
Channels
Some hosts add more channels, like Wins or Help. When there are two or more, you see a list of them on the left on the web. On a phone, Chat opens your last channel. Go back to see the list.
- You only see the channels you have access to. Some are just for buyers of a certain product.
- Only hosts can post here. means the channel is for the host's updates.
- This channel is closed. means it's read-only now. You can still read it.
Pin channels to the top
Pin the channels you use most. Your pins are just for you, so nobody else's list changes.
- Web: click the ⋯ on a channel, or right-click it, then Pin to top. Drag your pins to put them in order.

- To unpin, open the same menu and pick Unpin.

- You only see channels you can post in.
- A forwarded message keeps the first person who wrote it, even if you forward a forward.
Reply in a thread
A thread keeps a side conversation under one message, so the channel stays easy to follow.
- 01
Open the thread
Pick Reply in thread on a message. Or tap the blue replies link under a message that already has a thread.
- 02
Write your reply
The thread takes over the chat: the first message on top, the replies under it, and a box that says Reply in thread. Use the back arrow at the top to go back to the channel.
- Thread replies don't show in the channel. The message shows how many replies it has and when the last one came.
- You follow a thread once you write in it, get mentioned in it, or wrote the first message. New replies show up in your bell.
- In a channel where Only hosts can post here., members can still reply in threads.
Send a voice note
With the box empty, you have two ways to record:
- Hold the mic to record. Let go to stop.
- Or click or tap the mic to record hands-free. Click the red stop button when you're done.
Then play it back to check it. Click send, or click the trash to throw it away. Notes can be up to 5 minutes. At 5:00 it stops so you can check it.
To listen to a voice note:
- Tap play, or tap the bars to jump ahead.
- Tap 1x to switch to 1.5x or 2x. Your device remembers it.
- When a note ends, the next voice note below it starts on its own.
- Tap Aa to turn a note into text. It's free, and everyone sees the text after that. Tap Aa again to hide it for you.
- You can't edit a voice note. Delete it and record a new one.
Pins, join lines, and search
- Pinned: hosts and moderators pin key messages, like the rules. They sit in a bar at the top of the chat. Open it and pick one to jump there.
- "Maya joined": when someone new joins, a small line shows in General. People who join close together share a line, like "Maya and 6 others joined." Tap it to see who.
- 👋 Wave: on a line for one new person, tap 👋 Wave to send them a 👋 reply.
- Search: on the web, the Search bar above the channels finds messages and Library posts, and the search button next to a channel's name looks in that channel only. On a phone, tap the search button at the top.
Report a message
Open the message's menu (right-click on the web, long-press on a phone) and pick Report. Choose Spam or selling, Rude or mean, Off topic, or Something else, add a note if you want, and send it. A moderator takes a look.
If something's not working
- The send button counts down: the channel has slow mode. You see Slow mode and the wait next to the box's buttons.
- The box says "You're muted": a moderator muted you. You can still read and react.
- The mic won't record: allow the microphone for Eden. On the web, turn it on for this site in your browser's settings. On a phone, turn on Microphone for Eden in your phone's settings.
- "Can't play this one here": a note recorded in Firefox may not play on an iPhone. Tap Aa to read it.
- "This community is out of file space": the community's storage is full. Messages still send. Photos, voice notes, and videos work again once the owner makes room.
