Gumroad fees in 2026: what Gumroad takes from every sale
Gumroad charges 10% + 50¢ per direct sale plus card processing, and 30% through Discover. Here is every Gumroad fee, with examples, checked September 2026.
Gumroad has no monthly fee. It takes 10% + 50¢ from every direct sale, plus card processing of 2.9% + 30¢, so a $30 product leaves you about $25.33. Sales that come through Gumroad's Discover marketplace cost a flat 30% instead, processing included. In any month your sales pass $20,000, the direct fee drops to 5% + 50¢. Sales tax and VAT are added on top of your price, and Gumroad pays them for you.
Full disclosure: we make Eden, which also sells a creator store, and we compare the numbers at the end. Every Gumroad fee below comes from Gumroad's own help center, checked in September 2026.

What you keep, with examples
| Price | Gumroad fee | Processing | You keep | Share you keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $1.50 | $0.59 | $7.91 | 79% |
| $30 | $3.50 | $1.17 | $25.33 | 84% |
| $100 | $10.50 | $3.20 | $86.30 | 86% |
| $300 | $30.50 | $9.00 | $260.50 | 87% |
The 50¢ flat fee hits cheap products hardest. On a $10 product, you give up about a fifth of the price. A Discover sale of the same $30 product leaves you $21.
Discover: the 30% fee
Discover is Gumroad's marketplace, where buyers browse products. When a sale comes from Discover, Gumroad keeps 30% instead of 10% + 50¢. That's the cost of a buyer you didn't bring.
To be listed, you need payout settings filled in, at least $100 in real sales, and to pass a risk review (about three weeks on average). Each product needs at least one non-refunded sale and a category. Products on Discover also join Gumroad's affiliate program automatically.
Refunds and chargebacks
- Refunds: Gumroad returns its own fee on the refunded amount. The card processing part is kept.
- Chargebacks: you cover the refunded amount and the processing fees, and Gumroad returns its platform fee. If disputes go above 1% of your sales, Gumroad pauses payouts, and a "no refunds" policy can be switched to a 30-day guarantee.
- Connected Stripe or PayPal accounts follow different rules. You fight your own disputes there.
Affiliates
On a sale through an affiliate, the fees are split in proportion to the commission. If the affiliate earns 30%, they pay 30% of the fees.
Tax and VAT
Since January 1, 2025, Gumroad has been the merchant of record. That means it's legally the seller, so it collects and pays sales tax and VAT worldwide. Tax is added on top of your price, never taken out of it, and you can't make prices tax-inclusive. This is the biggest reason sellers stay on Gumroad: no tax filings in dozens of countries.
Payouts
- Payouts need a $100 balance (higher in some countries), paid to a local bank account in your currency.
- Choose daily (US only), weekly, monthly, or quarterly. Sales are held at least 7 days on the non-daily schedules.
- PayPal payouts, used where Gumroad can't pay to a bank, cost 2%.
- US sellers can take an instant payout for 3%.
How Gumroad compares
On $1,000 a month in $30 sales (about 33 sales), platform costs only, before card processing:
| Platform | Monthly | Per sale | Monthly cost | Handles tax? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gumroad | $0 | 10% + 50¢ | ~$117 | Yes |
| Payhip Free | $0 | 5% | $50 | VAT and US sales tax |
| Lemon Squeezy | $0 | 5% + 50¢ | ~$67 | Yes |
| Stan Creator | $29 | 0% | $29 | No |
| Eden Starter | $29 | 5% | $79 | No |
Gumroad is simple and takes tax off your plate. But on $1,000 a month you pay about $1,400 a year for it, more than twice what Payhip's free plan costs for the same tax handling. See Gumroad alternatives for the full list, or Gumroad vs Stan Store for the break-even math.
Eden costs more than a plain store because it sells more: courses, cohorts, coaching, and Custom AI products with an AI that teaches buyers what they bought. You can also keep Gumroad as your checkout and give buyers access in Eden, with no Eden cut on those sales.
