Gumroad is free to start and takes 10% + 50¢ per sale, but it handles sales tax for you and has a marketplace that can send you buyers. Stan Store costs $29 or $99 a month and takes 0%, but tax is yours to pay. With a $30 average price, Stan's $29 plan gets cheaper than Gumroad once you sell about $250 a month (9 sales). Below that, Gumroad costs less. If you want a free page now and upsells without paying $99, Eden is a third option.

Full disclosure: we make Eden, which we cover as a third option at the end. Gumroad's numbers come from its pricing page and help center. Stan's come from its help center and blog. All were checked in September 2026. Card processing (2.9% + 30¢ per US card sale) applies on both and is left out of the fee math.

The short read: Gumroad charges nothing up front and takes more per sale, but it does your tax. Stan charges a flat monthly price and takes nothing per sale, but most of its selling tools are on the $99 plan.

Price and fees

Gumroad has no plan. Its help center lists 10% + 50¢ on every sale made through your profile or your own links, plus card processing of 2.9% + 30¢ or PayPal's fees. Sales that come from its Discover marketplace cost a flat 30%, processing included. Once your paid sales pass $20,000 in a calendar month, direct sales drop to 5% + 50¢ for the rest of that month. Full detail in Gumroad fees.

Stan charges a flat monthly price and 0% per sale. Creator is $29 a month and Creator Pro is $99. You still pay Stripe or PayPal processing, and Stan's help center lists a payout fee of 0.25% + 25¢ (at least $1) each time you cash out. Full detail in Stan Store fees.

The break-even math

Gumroad's cost grows with every sale. Stan's stays flat. So the question is simple: at what monthly sales does Stan's flat price beat Gumroad's cut?

Here's what each costs per month at a $30 average price. That's Gumroad's 10% plus 50¢ on every sale, and Stan's plan price. Processing is the same on both, so it's left out.

Monthly salesNumber of $30 salesGumroadStan CreatorStan Creator Pro
$100about 3$12$29$99
$250about 8$29$29$99
$500about 17$58$29$99
$1,000about 33$117$29$99
$3,000100$350$29$99
$10,000about 333$1,167$29$99

The 50¢ per sale matters more when your price is low. Here's where Stan gets cheaper at three average prices:

Average priceGumroad takes per saleStan Creator ($29) cheaper afterStan Creator Pro ($99) cheaper after
$10$1.50about $195 a month (20 sales)about $660 a month (66 sales)
$30$3.50about $250 a month (9 sales)about $850 a month (29 sales)
$100$10.50about $280 a month (3 sales)about $945 a month (10 sales)

Two things change the math:

  • Stan's payout fee. Cash out once a week and it's about $4 or $5 a month, which moves the $30 break-even to about $285.
  • Gumroad does your tax. On Stan, you register, collect, and file sales tax or VAT yourself, where required. If that costs you an accountant or hours each quarter, count it.

And one thing cuts the other way: a Discover sale on Gumroad costs 30%, but it's a buyer you didn't have to find.

What you can sell

Gumroad sells digital downloads, ebooks, courses, and memberships, from a simple product page. Its checkout supports upsells and cross-sells on every account, and you can run your own affiliate program at any rate from 1% to 75%.

Stan is built around a storefront. On the $29 plan you get downloads, an unlimited course builder, coaching calls with a booking calendar, memberships, community, and Stan AutoDM for Instagram. Upsells, order bumps, discount codes, payment plans, funnels, and affiliates need Creator Pro at $99.

Email and marketing

Gumroad lets you send broadcasts to customers, followers, or affiliates, and set up automated workflows, like a follow-up after a purchase or an abandoned cart email.

Stan collects emails on Creator. Importing contacts, broadcasts, and automated flows are on Creator Pro, along with ad pixels for Meta, Google, Pinterest, and TikTok.

Payouts

Gumroad pays out once your balance reaches $100 (higher in some countries). You pick daily (US only), weekly, monthly, or quarterly.

Stan lets you cash out once you have $10, and you cash out the whole balance at once. Money usually arrives in 24 to 48 hours after you cash out. Sales take about 2 business days to clear in the US, up to 7 elsewhere.

Which one should you pick?

  • Choose Gumroad if you sell less than about $250 a month, sell to buyers in many countries, or never want to deal with sales tax.
  • Choose Gumroad if you think Discover can bring you buyers. No other tool here has a marketplace.
  • Choose Stan Creator if you sell more than about $250 a month from social media and want a storefront with coaching calls and courses.
  • Choose Stan Creator Pro if you need upsells, discount codes, email broadcasts, or affiliates and sell enough to justify $99. Past about $850 a month at $30 a sale, it costs less than Gumroad.

A third option: Eden

Eden sits between the two. Like Gumroad, you can start free: the link-in-bio page is free on every plan. Like Stan, there's a real store behind it.

  • A free page at your-handle.eden.so with your products, links, videos, and an email box. See your creator page.
  • Selling starts at $29 a month (Starter), plus 5% per sale. Order bumps, discount codes, and timed sales are on that plan. Pro at $79 adds up to 3 one-click upsells and an affiliate program. Stan puts most of those on $99.
  • More product types: courses, cohorts, downloads, coaching, memberships, bundles, and Custom AI products, an AI trained on your material that buyers chat with.
  • Keep Gumroad as your checkout if you like. Eden can use your own checkout, including Gumroad, and give buyers access on Eden with no Eden cut. Bumps and upsells only work on Eden checkout.

Where Eden falls short, honestly:

  • Stan Creator is cheaper at every sales level. Both cost $29, and Stan takes 0% where Eden takes 5%.
  • Against Gumroad, Eden costs less once you sell about $435 a month at $30 a sale. Against Stan Creator Pro, Eden Pro ($79 plus 5%) costs less until about $400 a month.
  • Eden isn't a merchant of record, so sales tax is yours, like Stan. There's no marketplace like Discover, and no custom domain.

How to start selling on Eden

  1. Sign up at app.eden.so and claim your handle.
  2. Open Your store → Storefront, click Edit page, and add your photo, links, and an email box.
  3. In Products, build your first product. Building is free on any plan.
  4. Upgrade to Starter to publish. The product shows up on your page on its own.
  5. Paste your page link into your bio.
