How to sell templates online: Notion, Canva, and more (2026)
How to make and sell templates online: pick one job, build it, choose where to sell (Notion Marketplace, Etsy, Gumroad, your own store), and deliver it without leaks.
To sell templates online, build a template that does one job well (plan a week, track a habit, write a pitch), test it on a few real people, then sell it where your buyers already are. Notion templates can go on the Notion Marketplace for 8% + 40¢ a sale, Canva templates sell as template links, and printables sell well on Etsy. If you have an audience, a store in your link in bio keeps more of each sale and lets you pair the template with a guide or an AI that helps buyers fill it in.
This guide is for creators and freelancers who use their own templates every week and want to sell them. Full disclosure: we make Eden, a creator workspace with a store. Platform rules and fees were checked on each company's site in September 2026.
Step 1: Pick one job
The templates that sell do one specific job for one specific person. "Life planner" is crowded. "Content calendar for newsletter writers who post twice a week" is easy to buy, because the right person sees it and knows it's for them.
Start with a template you already use. You know it works, you know where people get stuck, and you can show it working in your own content.
Step 2: Choose your format
| Format | Best for | How buyers get it |
|---|---|---|
| Notion | Planners, trackers, dashboards, systems | A duplicate link into their own Notion |
| Canva | Social posts, slides, media kits, ebooks | A Canva template link |
| Google Sheets/Excel | Budgets, calculators, trackers | A copy link or a file download |
| PDF or printable | Planners, worksheets, checklists | A file download |
| Figma or Framer | Design and website templates | A community file or marketplace listing |
Step 3: Build it so it's easy to start
- A "start here" page inside the template. What it's for and the first three things to do.
- One filled-in example. Buyers learn faster from a finished sample than from empty fields.
- A short video walkthrough. Two to five minutes. It cuts refund requests and support emails.
- Test it on three people before you sell. Watch where they get confused, and fix that.
Step 4: Know the platform rules
Notion. The Notion Marketplace takes 8% + 40¢ per paid sale (plus 1% for sellers paid outside the US), handles sales tax as the merchant of record, and pays every two weeks once you have $20. You need a creator profile and Notion's approval, which Notion says can take a few months. Buyers get a published page with Duplicate as template turned on. Anyone with that link can view it, so a buyer can pass it on. More in how to sell Notion templates.
Canva. Templates must be your original designs. If a template uses any Canva Pro elements, you can only sell it as a Canva template link, never as a PDF or other file. Making a template link needs a paid Canva plan. Buyers on free Canva can use the link, but they see watermarks on Pro elements until they pay for them or upgrade, so say so on your sales page.
Etsy. Instant downloads allow up to 5 files of 20MB each. Fees are $0.20 per listing (renewed every 4 months), 6.5% per sale, 3% + 25¢ processing in the US, and Offsite Ads that can take 12% to 15% of a sale. Etsy is great for printables that people find by search.
Figma and Framer. Figma takes 15% of paid Community files but isn't approving new paid sellers right now. Framer lets template creators keep 100% of Marketplace sales.
Step 5: Choose where to sell
| Where | Fee per sale | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Notion Marketplace | 8% + 40¢ | Buyers browse Notion for templates |
| Etsy | 6.5% + listing and processing | Buyers search for printables |
| Gumroad | 10% + 50¢ | You want no monthly bill and tax handled |
| Stan Store | 0% on $29/mo | You sell from your link in bio |
| Eden | 5% on $29/mo | You sell from your link in bio and want more than a file |
Marketplaces bring buyers but take a bigger cut and own the relationship. Your own store keeps more and gives you every buyer's email. Many sellers do both: list on a marketplace to be found, and sell from their own store to their audience. More in the best platforms to sell digital products.
Step 6: Price it
- Price by the time it saves. A template that saves someone two hours a week is worth more than its page count.
- Look at similar templates on the marketplace you'll sell on, and place yours in that range.
- Sell a bundle. Three related templates at a lower combined price. Bundles raise what each buyer spends.
- Add an upgrade. The template plus a video course or a review call, for buyers who want more help.
Step 7: Deliver it without leaks
Every template link can be shared. You can't stop that fully, but you can make the paid version worth more than a copied link:
- Keep the help with the purchase. A walkthrough video, a guide, and updates only buyers get.
- Send updates. Buyers of your version get improvements. A copied link from a year ago doesn't.
- Add something personal. An AI that helps each buyer fill the template in for their own situation can't be passed along with a link.
How to sell templates on Eden
See the full tour on the Eden digital downloads page.
On Eden, a template is a digital download: Your store → Products → New product → Digital download.
- Workspace templates copy as real ones. Sell an Eden board, table, or document, and buyers click Add to workspace to get their own working copy.
- Any file works too. Upload PDFs, images, and video, or add download-only files like a zip or spreadsheet (up to 20 per product, 2 GB in total).
- Notion or Canva templates can go in a document inside the product, next to your walkthrough. The link sits behind the purchase instead of on a public page.
- Add an AI. Switch Product type to Custom AI, and the template comes with an AI that knows it and helps each buyer fill it in.
- Sell more per order. Bundles, order bumps, and discount codes are on the entry selling plan. Upsells after checkout need Pro at $79. See upsells and order bumps.
Every product shows on your free link-in-bio page. Selling needs the $29 Starter plan, and Eden takes 5% per sale. Eden isn't a merchant of record, so sales tax through Stripe is yours to handle.
Frequently asked questions
Can you sell Notion templates on the Notion Marketplace?
Yes, once Notion approves your creator profile. Notion takes 8% + 40¢ per sale and handles sales tax. You can also list a template on Notion and sell it through another platform.
Can I sell Canva templates that use Pro elements?
Only as Canva template links, not as PDFs or other files. Buyers on free Canva will see watermarks on the Pro elements.
How much do templates sell for?
It depends on the job and the buyer. Look at what similar templates cost on the marketplace you'll sell on, then price by the time yours saves.
How do I stop people sharing my template?
You can't fully. Make the paid version worth more than a copied link: a walkthrough, updates, and help that stays with the buyer.
