Connecting knowledge to a Custom AI
Attach boards, notes, files, links, and creators. Live sources stay current on their own, and every answer shows you exactly which sources it used.
Knowledge is what turns a chat AI into your AI. Connect the boards, notes, files, and creators it should work from, and every conversation draws on that material — with a receipt under each answer showing exactly which sources it used.
What you can connect
- Boards — a whole board becomes a live source. Your research board, your ideas board, a client's brand board.
- Notes and saved items — individual documents, highlights, and posts from your Library.
- Files — drop in Markdown, PDFs, and docs. They're saved to your Library first, then attached, so the same file is usable everywhere in Eden, not trapped inside one AI.
- Links — paste a URL and Eden saves and indexes it as a source.
- Creators — a creator's public posts as reference material, with a role you choose. See adding creators as sources.
Live means live
Board and note sources are pointers, not copies. Update the board tomorrow and the Custom AI works from the new version — no re-uploading. This is the difference between "I uploaded some files once" and a companion that stays current with your actual work.
How it decides what to use
You don't manage this per message. Each time you send a message, Eden looks at the connected sources, pulls in the ones relevant to what you asked, and leaves the rest out. Ask your study companion about chapter 3 and it reads chapter 3 — not all nine chapters.
Under the answer you'll see a small context line naming the sources it used. Each one is clickable. If it leaned on the wrong thing, tell it — "don't use that doc unless I ask" — and the correction sticks as a reviewable change.
One-off context stays one-off
You can still @-mention any item mid-chat for a single question. That attaches it to the conversation without making it permanent knowledge. Permanent sources are a deliberate act, so your Custom AI never quietly accumulates clutter.
Choosing the right amount
Narrow beats big. A Custom AI with the twelve documents that matter outperforms one drowning in three hundred "just in case" items — this is the whole point of building a narrowed context. Good rules of thumb:
- Start with the material you'd hand a smart new collaborator on day one.
- Prefer one well-kept board over many stale ones.
- If two topics never overlap, they probably want two Custom AIs — a study companion per subject, a brand AI per client.
What is a Custom AI
A Custom AI is an AI you build around a chosen set of knowledge — your docs, boards, books, or favorite creators — so every chat starts inside the right context instead of a blank box.
Adding creators as sources
Attach any creator Eden can index and choose what their material is for — ideas, voice, or research. Pattern study with visible sources, never impersonation.
Chatting with your Library
The brain icon in chat surfaces saved items related to your conversation — one click attaches a note, highlight, or post as context for Eden's next reply.
