Using your Custom AIs through the Eden MCP

Your AI assistant can list your Custom AIs, adopt their instructions, and search inside their attached knowledge — including the bundled documents that come with a Custom AI installed from the marketplace.

A Custom AI packages instructions, conversation starters, and a knowledge base into one reusable assistant. Through the Eden MCP, Claude, Cursor, or any connected assistant can pick up a Custom AI and work the way it was built to — including reading and searching the knowledge documents that ship with Custom AIs installed from the marketplace.

This article assumes Eden is already connected. If it isn't, start with the quick start.

What the assistant can do

Eight tools cover discovery, management, and knowledge. You never call them by name — you just ask, and the assistant picks the right one:

  • List your Custom AIs. "What Custom AIs do I have?" returns every Custom AI in your workspace with its name, summary, and conversation starters.
  • Load one. "Use my Newsletter Studio Custom AI for this chat." The assistant loads its full instructions and adopts them for the conversation, plus a catalog of its attached sources.
  • List its knowledge. For a Custom AI installed from the marketplace, the assistant can list the knowledge documents bundled with it — file names, types, and sizes.
  • Search inside the knowledge. "What does the playbook say about pricing?" The assistant searches every bundled document and gets back matching passages with their exact position, so it can jump straight to the right section instead of reading everything.
  • Read a document. Long documents come back in pages, so even a large PDF's text is readable without flooding the conversation.
  • Create, update, or delete. A write-enabled connection can build a new workspace Custom AI, replace an editable Custom AI's definition with revision safety, or archive one after you confirm. Marketplace-managed installs stay read-only.

How to use it

There's no attach menu step for Custom AIs — the flow is conversational:

  1. 01

    Ask what's available

"What Custom AIs do I have in Eden?" The assistant lists them with their summaries.

  2. 02

    Pick one for the conversation

"Use the Topic Research one for this chat." The assistant loads its instructions and keeps them active for the rest of the conversation.

  3. 03

    Ask your real question

From here, questions get answered the way the Custom AI was designed to answer them — and when the answer lives in its knowledge base, the assistant searches and reads the right document on its own.

You can also say “build me a Custom AI for weekly newsletter planning,” “update my Idea Partner with these rules,” or “delete the old Research Assistant.” Updates and deletes read the latest revision first so they never silently overwrite a teammate's newer edit.

Marketplace installs and protected knowledge

A Custom AI you build yourself attaches knowledge from your own workspace — boards, documents, creators — and the assistant reads those with its normal workspace tools.

A Custom AI installed from the marketplace is different: its knowledge ships as a bundle of documents prepared by the publisher. The list, search, and read tools above are how the assistant gets at that bundle.

Open Custom AI setup for Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor connection instructions, a setup prompt, and a downloadable skill.

If the tools don't show up

If you connected Eden before these tools shipped, your assistant may be holding an older tool list. Refresh the tools and they'll appear. You can also manage which tools are enabled per connection under Settings → Integrations in Eden — the Custom AI tools are in their own group.
