Using your skills as slash commands

This article assumes you already have Eden connected through the MCP. If you don't, start with connecting AI assistants first. And if you're new to skills, see what are skills in Eden.

Your skills, everywhere

Eden registers each of your saved skills as a slash command named after it - a "Newsletter Writer" skill becomes /eden-newsletter-writer, "Content Atomizer" becomes /eden-content-atomizer, and so on. Picking one seeds the conversation with that skill's instructions, exactly as running it from Eden's own / menu would. You build and organize the library in Eden; it just shows up here too.

How they look in each client

Claude (web) and Cursor

Type / in the chat composer. A picker appears with the slash commands available to you, including any from your connected MCPs. Eden's are prefixed /eden- so they group together.

Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop doesn't list MCP commands in the / picker. They live in the attachment menu instead:

   Click the + in the composer

   The plus icon to the left of the message box opens the attachment menu.

   Choose 'Add from Eden'

   Eden shows up as its own entry (it may sit under a "Tools" or connector section).

   Pick the skill you want

   Choose one of your skills from the list. Claude drops it into the chat and runs it.

If you don't see "Add from Eden", the connector hasn't loaded yet - refresh it using the steps in getting the latest Eden tools and skills.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT doesn't have a slash picker for MCP commands yet. Invoke a skill by name in plain English instead ("run my newsletter skill on this draft"). The assistant uses the same underlying tools to find and apply it.

Giving a skill its input

Each skill command takes one optional input - paste your text, a URL, or a topic when you pick it, or just run the command and the skill will ask for what it needs. The chat box hint tells you what to provide. This mirrors how the skill behaves inside Eden.

Let the assistant find the right skill

You don't have to remember command names. Two tools let a connected assistant work with your library directly:

• eden_list_prompts - the assistant can see your whole catalog of skills (names, descriptions) and pick the one that fits what you asked. The tool name is kept for compatibility.
• eden_get_prompt - it pulls a specific skill's full instructions and applies them. The tool name is kept for compatibility.

So "use my cold-email skill on this company" works even if you never type a slash command - the assistant lists your skills, finds the match, and runs it.

New skills show up automatically

Add, rename, or delete a skill in Eden and it updates in your connected assistant within about a minute of your next message there - no need to disconnect and reconnect. (If it doesn't appear, a manual refresh forces it.)

What does and doesn't travel

A skill run in an outside client uses that client's tools and model, so:

• Instructions and notes travel. The skill's full method comes through and the assistant follows it.
• Knowledge base resolves through Eden. If a skill references saved boards or items, the assistant opens them with Eden's read tools (eden_read_board, eden_get_note_markdown).
• Eden-only tools and your saved voice don't transfer. A skill that leans on Eden's creator research or writes in your saved identity works best run inside Eden. Outside, the assistant applies the instructions with the tools it has where it lives.
