Getting the latest Eden MCP tools and slash commands

When the Eden MCP ships new tools or slash commands, your already-connected assistant doesn't see them automatically. Here is how to pull the latest list in Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT so the new capabilities show up in your next chat.

·4 min read

Eden ships new MCP tools and slash commands fairly often. Your already-connected assistant remembers the list of what was available the day you connected, and it doesn't auto-update. When you read in our changelog that a new command has landed, you usually need to nudge your assistant to pull the latest list. This article shows the one-click path in each assistant.

You'll usually notice one of these two signs:

  • The assistant tells you it can't do something that's in our changelog.
  • A slash command in our docs isn't showing up when you type /.

In both cases, refresh the tool list.

Claude (Desktop and web)

Claude calls Eden a "connector." The refresh is in the connector's menu.

  1. 01

    Open Claude's Settings

Click your avatar in the top right, then Settings.

  2. 02

    Go to Customize → Connectors

On the left sidebar, click Customize, then Connectors. You'll see Eden in the list.

  3. 03

Open the three-dot menu on the Eden row

To the right of the Eden connector, click the three-dot (⋯) menu.

  4. 04

    Click Refresh tools list

Claude pings Eden's MCP server and pulls the latest list of tools, prompts, and resources. You'll see a confirmation when it finishes (usually under a second).

  5. 05

    Start a fresh chat

The new tools and slash commands show up in your next conversation. Existing in-flight chats won't pick up the change until you start a new one.

If the refresh doesn't seem to work, fall back to disconnecting and reconnecting Eden entirely. Same Settings → Customize → Connectors page; click the three-dot menu and choose Disconnect, then go back to Eden's Settings → Integrations and click Add to Claude again.

On Claude Desktop, the new tools work right away, but slash commands aren't in the / picker. After refreshing, find them in the composer's + menu under Add from Eden. See slash commands in the Eden MCP for the full walkthrough.

Cursor

Cursor doesn't have a dedicated "refresh tools" action, but it re-fetches the tool list whenever the MCP server reconnects. The fast path:

  1. 01

    Open Cursor Settings → MCP

Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + J opens settings. Click MCP on the left.

  2. 02

    Toggle Eden off, then on

Find Eden in the MCP servers list. Click the toggle to disable it, wait a beat, click it again to re-enable. Cursor re-handshakes the server and pulls the latest tools.

  3. 03

    Or restart Cursor

A full Cursor restart also re-handshakes every MCP server. Slower but bulletproof.

After the toggle (or restart), the new tools are available in your next Composer / chat sidebar prompt.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT calls Eden a "custom connector." Its refresh story is the least mature of the three; the connector usually pulls the latest tool list at the start of each new chat, but there's no explicit refresh button. If a new tool isn't showing up:

  1. 01

    Start a brand new chat

Don't continue an existing thread. ChatGPT caches the tool list per conversation, so a fresh chat is the cheapest way to pick up new tools.

  2. 02

If still missing: re-enable the connector

Go to Settings → Apps → Eden. Toggle it off, then back on. ChatGPT re-fetches the tool list next time you start a chat with the connector enabled.

  3. 03

If still missing: delete and re-create the connector

Last resort. In Settings → Apps, remove the Eden connector, then go through the Create flow again (the same steps from connecting AI assistants).

How to know when to refresh

You don't have to refresh on a schedule. Refresh when:

  • You read about a new Eden feature in our changelog and want to try it.
  • You see a slash command in our docs that isn't in your picker.
  • Your assistant tells you it can't do something Eden lists as supported.

If everything is working, leave it alone. The tool list doesn't change so often that you need to refresh weekly.

What does NOT need a refresh

A few things are fetched live and don't depend on the cached tool list:

  • New saved cards on your boards. The assistant reads boards live every time you ask, so a board you updated five minutes ago is reflected immediately. No refresh needed.
  • New creators you started following. Same: eden_following_overview is a live call, your latest follows show up next question.
  • New voices, lists, documents. All read live. The resource listing is cached per session in some assistants (so a new voice you added today may not appear in Claude's resource picker until the next refresh), but reading by URI is always live.

So: refresh for new tools and slash commands. Don't bother for new content.
