Set up a custom link domain

First: what is a subdomain?

Your domain is the main address you own, such as yourbrand.com.

A subdomain adds a word in front of it, such as go.yourbrand.com. Think of it as a separate door into the same property. Eden uses that door only for tracked links—it does not replace your website at yourbrand.com or www.yourbrand.com.

Good choices include:

• go.yourbrand.com
• links.yourbrand.com
• click.yourbrand.com

Choose a subdomain you are not already using. Do not use your main domain, www, mail, or any address that already opens a website or another app.

What you need before you start

• A domain you own, such as yourbrand.com.
• The login for the company that manages its DNS. This may be Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, or another domain provider.
• A Pro or Studio workspace in Eden.
• About 10 minutes. Verification is often quick, although DNS changes can occasionally take up to 24–48 hours to appear everywhere.

If somebody else manages your website or domain, you can send them the record Eden shows in step 2 and ask them to add it for you.

Connect the subdomain in Eden

   Open the link domain setup

   Use either of these paths:

   • On Pro or Studio, open Publish, select Auto-DM from the upper-right view switcher, and click the Link domain control at the top.
   • On Studio, you can also open Settings → Links, turn on Track link clicks, and use the Link domain section.

   Both places manage the same domain. Once connected, it can be used by tracked links in Auto-DM and scheduled posts.

   Enter your subdomain

   Type the complete subdomain you chose, such as go.yourbrand.com, then click Connect domain.

   Enter only the address—do not include https://, www, a slash, or a page name. Eden will now show one or more DNS records with a Type, Name, and Value. Keep this screen open; you will copy those details in the next step.

   Open your DNS settings

   In a new browser tab, sign in to the company that manages your domain. Open your domain and look for a page named DNS, DNS settings, DNS records, Manage DNS, or Zone editor.

   The company where you bought the domain is not always the company managing its DNS. If you cannot add records there, look for a Nameservers section—it usually names the company whose account you need to open.

   Add every record Eden shows

   Click Add record or Add new record at your domain provider. Copy each field from Eden into the matching field there:

   Eden shows	Your provider may call it	What to enter
   Type	Type or Record type	Choose the exact type Eden shows, usually CNAME and sometimes TXT.
   Name	Name, Host, Hostname, or Alias	Copy the Name from Eden. If your provider automatically adds .yourbrand.com, enter only the part before it, such as go.
   Value	Value, Target, Points to, Destination, or Data	Copy the complete Value from Eden. Do not add https:// or a slash.
   —	TTL	Leave this on Auto, Default, or the provider's suggested value.

   If Eden shows two records, add and save both. Every record on the Eden screen is required.

   If you use Cloudflare and see a Proxy status switch, choose DNS only (gray cloud) while connecting the domain.

   Save and check the connection

   Save the record at your domain provider and return to Eden. Eden checks automatically every few moments; Check again forces an immediate check. You can also close the window—Eden keeps checking in the background and emails you when the domain is ready.

   Eden will show Connected or Active when it can see the DNS record and has finished securing the domain with HTTPS. Most domains connect within 5–30 minutes. Once DNS connects, securing HTTPS usually takes another 1–10 minutes. Some DNS providers take up to 24–48 hours, so a pending result does not necessarily mean you made a mistake.

Where to find DNS settings at common providers

The button names change occasionally, but these are the usual paths:

• Cloudflare: select your domain → DNS → Records → Add record. Follow Cloudflare's DNS record guide.
• GoDaddy: open Domain Portfolio → select the domain → DNS → Add New Record. Follow GoDaddy's CNAME guide.
• Namecheap: open Domain List → Manage → Advanced DNS → Add New Record. Namecheap usually wants only go, not go.yourbrand.com, in the Host field. Follow Namecheap's CNAME guide.
• Squarespace Domains: open the domains dashboard → select the domain → DNS → DNS Settings → Custom Records → Add record. Squarespace usually wants only go in the Name field. Follow Squarespace's DNS guide.

If your provider is not listed, search its help center for “add a DNS record”. You are looking for a form with Type, Name/Host, and Value/Target fields.

What happens after it connects

• New tracked Auto-DM links use your subdomain.
• When Track link clicks is on under Settings → Links, new links in scheduled posts use the same subdomain.
• Links created before verification keep their old edn.so address and continue to work.
• On workspaces with multiple brands, each brand can connect its own link subdomain.
• Keep the DNS record in place. Removing or changing it can break branded links you have already sent or published.

Troubleshooting

Eden says the domain is invalid

Enter a full subdomain such as go.yourbrand.com. Remove https://, www, anything after a slash, and any spaces.

Your provider says the Name is invalid

Many providers add your main domain automatically. If Eden shows go.yourbrand.com and the provider previews go.yourbrand.com.yourbrand.com, enter only go in the Name or Host field.

A record with that name already exists

That subdomain may already be in use. Do not delete a record you do not recognize—it may power another part of your website. Remove the pending domain from Eden, choose a different unused word such as links or click, and connect that instead.

Eden still says “Waiting on DNS”

Check these four things:

1. Every record Eden shows has been added and saved.
2. The Type, Name, and Value match exactly, with no https:// in the Value.
3. Your provider has not duplicated the main domain in the Name field.
4. If you use Cloudflare, the record is set to DNS only while Eden verifies it.

Then wait and click Check again. DNS changes often appear within minutes but can take 24–48 hours with some providers. Eden also waits for an HTTPS certificate, so there can be a short delay after the DNS itself starts working.

You cannot find DNS settings

Your DNS may be managed somewhere other than the company that sold you the domain. Look at the domain's Nameservers section or ask your website provider, “Where do I add a CNAME or TXT record for this domain?” If a designer or agency set up your website, they may still control this account.

You want to change or remove the domain

Be careful: removing the connection or its DNS record can break branded links already sent in DMs or published posts. If those links are still in use, keep the domain and its DNS record connected.
