Instagram Auto-DMs
Set up automations that DM a link when someone comments a keyword, replies to a story, or messages you — with click-tracked links and automatic public replies.
Auto-DM turns engagement on your Instagram into conversations, automatically. "Comment LINK and I'll send it to you" — Eden watches your posts, stories, and DMs, and sends the link for you within a minute. Available on Pro and Studio plans, from the Auto-DM page in the sidebar (under More).
What you can automate
Each automation pairs one trigger with the DM it sends:
- Comment keyword → DM — someone comments a keyword (like "LINK") on a post, and they get your DM. You choose which posts it watches: one specific post, your next post, or every new post.
- Story reply → DM — anyone who replies to your stories gets the DM.
- DM keyword → DM — an incoming message containing your keyword gets an automatic reply.
- DM reaction → DM — someone reacts to a DM (optionally a specific emoji) and gets a follow-up.
- Public comment reply — instead of a DM, post an automatic public reply to matching comments. Comment→DM automations can also add a companion public reply ("just sent it — check your DMs!").
Set up your first automation
- 01
Connect Instagram
Auto-DM runs on the Instagram account you've connected under Settings → Scheduling. If you connected Instagram a while ago, Eden may ask you to reconnect once — messaging permissions are granted at connect time, and automations can't see your comments and DMs without them.
- 02
Create the automation
Open Auto-DM in the sidebar (under More) and click New automation. Pick a trigger, add your keywords, and write the DM. The live preview shows exactly what the recipient sees.
- 03
Add your link
Paste the destination link. Eden sends a short edn.so link and counts every click, so your cards show sends, clicks, and click-through rate. You can claim a custom name (edn.so/your-name), or turn tracking off to send the raw URL instead.
Post targeting for comment automations
Instagram automations watch one post at a time, so comment automations come with three scopes:
- A specific post — pick from your recent posts; the automation starts immediately.
- Your next post — the automation arms itself on the next post you publish (within a few minutes of it going live).
- Every new post — each new post is watched automatically. Eden keeps your most recent posts armed and retires the oldest ones as new posts come in — old posts get almost no new comments, so coverage stays where the engagement is.
Timing and delivery
A few behaviors are built in — they make automations feel human and keep your account safe:
- DMs send with a short natural delay (roughly 20–60 seconds) instead of instantly.
- The same person won't receive the same automation's DM twice within 7 days.
- Public comment replies are capped per day per automation to avoid spam flags.
- Instagram itself limits how many DMs an account can send per hour; very viral posts may deliver over a longer window.
Links and click tracking
- Tracked links use the edn.so domain and show clicks on the automation's card.
- Editing your link later keeps the same short link — DMs already sent point at the new destination.
- Custom link names are first-come, first-served and can't be renamed after creation (a rename would break links already sent).
- Turn Track clicks off at creation to send the raw URL; click stats are hidden for those.
Troubleshooting
- "Connect Instagram in Settings → Scheduling first." — the workspace (or the selected brand) has no Instagram connected yet.
- "Instagram needs a quick reconnect to enable messaging." — disconnect and reconnect Instagram in Settings → Scheduling. Connections made before messaging was enabled can't receive comment or DM events until they're relinked.
- Automation shows "Paused — out of credits." — your workspace's credits hit zero. Top up or wait for your monthly refill; automations resume automatically. Auto-refresh prevents this entirely.
- You've hit the automation limit. — each workspace can run up to 10 automations; delete one you no longer need.
- DMs aren't sending on an old post. — comment automations only catch comments made after the automation was created; earlier comments never trigger.
